Many block themes come with different fonts and color schemes you can choose from while activating a theme. This guide will show you how to choose your preferred style for your theme.
This section of the guide applies to sites with our WordPress.com Explorer, Creator and Entrepreneur plans. If your site has one of our legacy plans, this feature is available on the Pro plan.

When choosing a theme for your site, you will find that many themes include different predefined colors and font styles. When activating a theme, you can choose the style that best suits your vision for your website:
After activating the theme, you can further customize the font and color choices to your needs via the Styles options.
You can browse through and switch the theme’s style in several places:
To choose from different style combinations for a theme you haven’t yet activated:
- Visit your website’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Themes.
- Browse through the list of themes. You will find many themes that include different style variations, identified by the two-tone colored circles next to the theme name:
- Click on any of the two-tone color icons. The image of the theme will display that style variation.
- Alternatively, click on the image of the theme to open up more information about that theme. Under “Styles” (or “Premium Styles” without an eligible plan), you can also browse the different style options:
When you activate the theme, it will be applied to your site with your selected style. Regardless of which variation you choose to activate, you will still have the option to change the colors, fonts, and appearance as you wish in the Site Editor.
To choose from different style combinations for the active theme on your website:
- Start from your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
- In the Design panel on the left, click on Styles.
- If your theme includes different style combinations, you can choose them here. Note that not all themes include style variations.
You can also browse the different style variations via the Styles button in the top right corner of the editor — click on “Browse styles” to choose a variation and change the look of the site:
