I consider this show quite original as I’ve never seen one with a perfect combination of comedy and education. It’s like an educational tour of an agricultural university where you learn a lot about what kind of microbes are used to make and perfect the tastes of various forms of alcohol, particularly sake. Of course other forms of microbes that are present in the air are also explained, both good and bad kinds. Also, in case you weren’t able to understand the lectures during the main episode, a cute summary after the end credits summarizes which microbes/bacteria/virus/etc. appeared in the episode. That’s another thing, the microbes all look like cute little chibi thingies. Most of them have a thankfully not annoying high pitched voice but there are a few who have low voices. Heck, even alternative energy and the power of manure/fertilizer are discussed.

Now for the comedic portions of the show. Behind the educational portion is a basic, yet effective school life, or college life comedy. Thankfully not a single person annoyed me on the show and that immediately increases the show’s appeal. It starts off slow in the 1st episode but eventually picks up the pace as there isn’t a single episode where Sawaki and Kei can walk freely without getting into trouble. My personal favorite episodes are 7 and 8 which is a 2-part festival episode and BOY IS IT BOTH INSANE, HILARIOUS AND UNNECESSARILY EPIC at the same time. Of course, being a school life show, there’s also character development as we slowly learn more about what it means to be a college student, finding your true calling, being true to yourself, hiding pain by taking a strange habit, etc. Needless to say a lot of stuff happens in such a short 11 episode series, which of course continues in manga form. Curse these manga lures.

The animation is quite charming, especially the wide variety of microbes. It helps tell them apart of course but they even got a good friend of mine to call them cute, so I consider that quite an accomplishment. Also, the girls are gorgeous. Yes, even Haruka (Especially when she’s not wearing makeup. Oh, there is some fanservice and depending what kind of person you are, will determine whether you can take it or not. Personally it’s perfect for me because…there isn’t a single loli in sight.GLORIOUS!

The music on the other hand…is okay. The OP and ED are fun to listen to but the soundtrack isn’t the least bit memorable. Too bad.

The characters, as mentioned above, are where the show shines as we slowly learn more about them and even see some of them, who we thought were pests at first, show surprising potential. Trust me, you won’t hate a single one of these people by the end of the show. If you do, that’s a shame.

Let’s begin with the males first. We have the blonde guy, who is our main protagonist: Tadayasu Souemon Sawaki, or just Sawaki. He enters the agricultural university in Tokyo at first just for the heck of it and enjoy the freedom, while also studying to become the heir of his father’s company…or does he?

Next we have the Abbott and Costello lookalike senior team of Kaoru Misato (Tall guy with a mustache) and Takuma Kawahara (Short fat guy). They’re the main source of comedy relief but are surprisingly knowledgeable and wise despite being schemers at first.

Next we have professor Itsuki. He may be weird…REALLY WEIRD, but he knows his way around and has enough experience and wisdom to rightfully have the title of professor. In short, he’s awesome.

Lastly we have Kei Yuki…I think I’ll let the viewers figure this guy out themselves.

Aww yeah, now we get to the good stuff, ze ladehs! first we have my favorite of the 3. The bodacious, adorable blonde neat freak Hazuki Oikawa. Believe me when I say there’s a reason she’s my favorite besides looking oh so cute and fine at the same time.

In the middle we have the rough and tough, sometimes sadistic ojou-sama who looks WAY cuter without makeup, Haruka Hasegawa. She isn’t very good at casual conversations or being nice to others, often belittling them, especially tall and chubby. There is a reason why she’s usually mean but it’s more fun finding out for yourself.

Third beauty to the right, it’s “Miss Agriculture” herself, voiced by the seiyuu with the seductive voice (Mamiko Noto), Aoi Muto! She got the title for being labeled the hottest woman on campus according to the cast. This hottie is no miss perfect as she isn’t afraid to get dirty, nor does she care. If she has to do manual labor to get what she wants, she’ll do it. Heck, she even drinks her troubles away. She’s also part of a strange club. Why she joined the club is weird, yet somewhat makes sense.

Lastly we have the bartender/psychologist of the cast, Aya Hiroka. I call her psychologist because later on when she’s introduced, the gang usually go to her for advice on their life issues.

And now it’s time for me to talk about what I do best. You all know what that is. There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is it won’t start until the 3rd quarter of the show. The good news is that it’s worth the wait. WHEW, it was short and sweet and there’s even a post aftermath, meaning just when you think it’s over…IT ISN’T OVER! Hoo baby! Suffice to say the yuri here is quite satisfying. Sure it isn’t romantic but what’s stopping us from making it so?

In conclusion, I gave this show a 10 because I didn’t regret watching this one bit and I’ll definitely give it a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th watch. It’s short but lots of fun to watch. Agree or disagree, I stand by my statement.

P.S.: Like Kuragehime, another show I really liked, this is another one we’ll unfortunately never see a 2nd season of. It’s a darn shame but what can you do?
