6 - CADET EVALUATIONS
6-1 INSTRUCTOR COUNSELING.
The SASI and lor ASI will privately counsel each cadet at least once each term during the school
year. The Counseling Form, Figure 6-1, will be used, and a copy will be filed in the Cadet's personnel
folder.
6-2 AFJROTC LEADERSHIP RATING.
A. Each academic term as minimum cadets in leadership positions will rate their subordinates
for possible advancement in rank andlor position. The form, AFJROTC Leadership Rating will be
used for these evaluations. The cadet evaluation system:
1. Documents performance for cadet promotions, awards, and job assignments
2. Teaches cadets how to evaluate and provide feedback
3. Introduces all cadets to ajob evaluation system.
B. Cadets being rated will review the report and sign it. A cadet's signature does not show
agreement or disagreement with the report, only that they have reviewed the document. If the cadet
does not agree with any part of the report, they should identify their reason in writing and forward it to
the next higher individual in their cadet chain of command. This cadet will indicate their agreement or
disagreement with the appeal and forward it to following levels of review until it reaches the final
review authority, the SASI, who will notify the cadet of any action on their appeal.
C. All evaluations will be indorsed by the next higher official above the evaluator and all
evaluations will be reviewed by the SASII ASI. These forms will be used primarily for endorsement of
higher rank, and in Cadet Boards. The Cadet Personnel Officer is responsible for the privacy and
safekeeping of the AFJROTC Leadership Rating forms.
D. The Cadet Squadron Commander will be evaluated by the SASI.
6-3 CADET BOARDS.
A. The SASI may appoint a board of cadet officers to determine any number of issues internal to
the corps. Some issues typically resolved by cadet boards are:
1. Cadet Disciplinary Action Board (CDAB) -- this board is used to determine if cadets
require disciplinary action for transgressions such as failure to maintain satisfactory appearance and/or
meet standards of good conduct. See Para 3-5.
2. Promotion Boards -- A board may be used to screen cadets for promotion. Command
and staff positions and rank will be determined by the SASI.
3. Awards Board -- Select cadets for outstanding accomplishments in the areas of
academic achievements, leadership and other applicable areas of achievement.
B. The SASI or ASI will normally be present during cadet boards to offer advice and to assure
proper procedures are followed. Findings and recommendations of cadet boards are always subject to
32
approval by the SASI and will serve only as a basis for further action by the SASI. All cadet boards
will be properly documented and reports will follow formats provided by the AS!.
CHAPTER 7 - ACTIVITIES
7-1. AFJROTC OFF CAMPUS (COCURRICULAR) ACTIVITIES.
A. Cocurricular Activities are functions planned by the cadets and serve to augment AFJROTC
classroom and leadership education requirements. They reinforce portions of the Aerospace and
Leadership Education objectives. For example, a Military Ball not only serves to stimulate cadet esprit
de corps but also provides experience in Air Force traditions. Other examples are:
1. Drill Teams
2. Newsletters
3. Community Service Projects
4. Physical Fitness teams
5. Corps Gatherings (Christmas Party, picnic, etc.)
B. A Curriculum-in-Action trip is a field trip conducted to further cadets understanding of the
military environment. These trips may be to military installations, museums, etc. All CIA trips are
school activities -- to participate a cadet must meet all school requirements and have parental consent
forms completed. Typically the Corps will conduct a large trip in the spring -- for the spring field trip
a 2.0 GPA and no school failures is required.
C. The SASI / ASI are responsible for the supervision and control of these activities and will
insure that cadet behavior is above reproach. Disorderly or unbecoming conduct by cadets will not be
tolerated. Guidelines and requirements will be developed by the cadets, SASIIASI and school
authorities (see Student Handbook) for all off campus activities. Cadets must meet school
requirements and be approved by the SASI and ASI in order to participate.
7-2. FUND RAISING
A. Fund raising activities are essential to the unit and are conducted for a number of projects.
All such activities will conform to local ordinances and school policies. Any solicitation on a military
installation must be approved by the Installation Commander and conducted in the manner prescribed
by that authority. The SASI will determine the appropriateness of the cadet wearing the uniform while
participating in fund raising activities.
B. The unit enjoys some financial support from community organizations who provide awards,
equipment and material not funded by the school or the Air Force. These organizations may also pay
for meals for performing cadets, or make a donation to the AFJROTC Activity Fund as an honorarium
in recognition of cadet services rendered. Typically, however, no cadet activity is completely funded
by either the school, the Air Force or outside organizations. For this reason, cadets are required to
raise funds during the school year as fulfillment of an obligation to the unit. Cadets not participating in
appropriate fund raising activities will be required to pay their own way if they wish to participate in
cocurricular activities, field trips, etc.
C. Donations, car washes, stadium clean-ups, working at sporting events and the sale of
approved items are some sources of income used by the Corps in recent years. Any and all funds
raised by the cadets through authorized activities must be turned in to cadet officials, SASIIASI and
school officials in turn. ANY PERSONAL USE OF FUNDS RAISED IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
35
7-3 AFJROTC RECRUITING
A. Each Spring Semester (February or March) the school conducts a orientation course for
incoming Sophomores. This "Carousel of Courses" established by the CHS Director of Guidance in
coordination with Gattis, Yucca and Marshall Junior High Schools is the primary recruiting platform
for AFJROTC. The SASI will select 5 t07 outstanding cadets to represent the Corps during this day.
The cadets will establish and man a table, build a presentation on AFJROTC (including a cadet
prepared video) to provide prospective recruits an understanding of what the corps is all about.
B. All ninth grade students who register for AFJROTC will be sent a welcome letter, which
will invite them to the voluntary JROTC summer orientation program conducted prior to the fall
semester.
7-4 AFJROTC DRILL TEAMS
A. The Wildcat Corps maintains a marching Drill Team that competes with other units
throughout New Mexico and west Texas. At the time of this printing, the team is an unarmed, mixed
(contains both male and female cadets) unit made up of cadet volunteers. Typically the team practices
after school two to three days each week and competes on average one weekend a month during the
school year. The drill team also presents the historic flags of the United States in ceremonies through
out the local area as the Historic Flag Ceremonial Team. Cost for transportation, extra uniform items,
etc., is provided by the Corps. Outstanding cadets interested in joining the team should contact the
from the ranks of the unarmed drill team. See the Drill Team commander for details.
7-5 AFJROTC HONOR GUARD
The Wildcat Corps maintains an Honor Guard to provide ceremonial duties for the Corps and
the school. The team is unarmed (other than simulated rifles), mixed (contains both male and female
cadets) and made of cadet volunteers. Additionally, members of the Honor Guard are responsible for
presenting and posting the National, State, and/or Air Force flags on a regular basis as part of a Color
Guard detail. Color Guard details are requested by many organizations through out the local area and
give cadets experience in honoring the flags of the nation and state. Color Guard details compete with
other units throughout New Mexico and west Texas in male, female, and mixed categories. Typically
the team practices after school two to three days each week and competes on average one weekend a
month during the school year. Cost for transportation, extra uniform items, etc., is picked up by the
Corps. All cadets interested in participation on the team need to discuss their intent with the Honor
Guard Commander to get additional information.
7-6 AFJROTC KITTY HAWK NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
inclusive), maintaining an "A" average in JROTC and an overall 3.0 GPA in the remainder of all
36
courses. Members are authorized to wear distinctive Honor Society badges and ropes on their uniform.
The Kitty Hawk Commander will provide additional information to interested cadets.
7-7 AFJROTC MODEL ROCKETRY CLUB
One of the newest programs established in the Corps is the AFJROTC Rocketry program. The
rocketry "club" is based solely on volunteers and is composed of 2 portions: the classroom program
teaching basic rocketry, and the actual launching of the model rockets assembled by the cadets.
