The ocean is such an incredible place.
They say that we know more about outer space than we do about the depths of the ocean, which is an insanely wild thought to think about given the fact that the ocean seems like a finite place to explore.
Outer space… endless.
With that being said, I just watched a video and saw something I thought I’d never see in my life…
And I’m talking about a fish that straight up looks like a bush.
Called the “feather star,” and also known as crinoids, these interesting marine animals fall into the same group that includes starfish, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers. Feather stars are known for their beautiful appearance and their ability to move gracefully through the water.
And here’s the kicker, there are approximately 600 known species of feather stars and I’ve never seen one until today.
At first glance, you’d think it was simply some sort of vegetation floating around in the water, but no, this is a living creature. According to Britannica, feather stars have feathery fringes that they use for swimming, and use their much smaller legs to sit on sponges, corals, and more.
They are mostly found from the Indian Ocean to Japan, so you probably wouldn’t see one of these things in America.
Nevertheless, it would still be pretty wild to go diving and see one of these things swimming around.
I can’t say I learned about this one in my marine biology class.
