Tomioka Giyuu

-------------------------------------------

Giyuu was dreaming of horrible things.

He dreamt of the demon that killed his sister, and its horrible blue eyes that stared him down and sized him up after his sister had been killed, her body ripped open and all over the floor.

He dreamed of a choking and suffocating scent of rotting meat. He dreamed of the gloating faces and the laughter.

He dreamed of the freezing snow and the freezing rain that battered his face, freezing his skin and eyelashes, turning them into painful, heavy needles.

Then he dreamed of a warm hand in his own. It was calloused and battered, but comforting nonetheless.

When he thought of this hand, emotions bled into his brain and stung at his conscience.

Rage. Excitement. Fear. Love.

The excessive and thirsting lust for revenge.

Giyuu never thought of himself as a bad person, or someone who truly believed that revenge solved everything.

But when he remembered the pain and the night when it happened, his mind instantly went to dark, ragey places.

Places he never thought he'd go to under normal circumstances.

"No, you're doing it wrong. All wrong. How could you mess up like this??"
"I'm trying!"
"Not hard enough!!"
Giyuu's body hit the pinesod with a soft thump.

"Sabito! That hurt!! Now I have pine needles in my hair!!" Giyuu protested, shaking his head like a wet dog.

"Well, how do expect to defeat any demon if you can't take a fall?" Sabito sighed, reaching out his hand to help Giyuu up.

"Alright. Try again Come at me." Sabito picked up his stick again, and reset himself back to an open but concise stance.

Giyuu took a moment to consider the facts in front of him. Then he took a calculated launch forward, sliding down to try and knock Sabito off balance. Sabito, who was way too fast for his own good, leapt up and landed gracefully on the sod behind Giyuu, brandishing the weak pine twig and hitting his head.

"Come on.." Giyuu groaned, getting up slowly and shaking his head.

"Never let them know your next move." Sabito chuckled, sitting down on the pinesod, his back up against a huge round boulder.

Giyuu sighed and sat down next to him, putting his head on Sabito's shoulder.

"Why can't I be as good as you?" Giyuu blurted, picking at his twig and snapping it in half.

"Because we aren't the same person. Your limits aren't mine." Sabito answered honestly.

"How do I push my limits further?" Giyuu asked. Sabito was silent for a minute, drowning in thoughts.

"A lot of people tell you that you need to surpass all of your limits to be perfect. I don't think this is true at all. I think you should work on what you're bad at the most, and let the things you're naturally good at shine on their own. Discomfort is something that's a barrier that holds you back. You gotta get out of your comfort zone to make that zone bigger." Sabito mused, picking up his water gourd and taking a sip.
