Al Pacino’s girlfriend Noor Alfallah, who gave birth to the couple’s son Roman three months ago, has legally filed for physical custody of the baby boy, according to court documents.

The 83-year-old Pacino, according to the filing, will have “reasonable visitation” of the baby, and joint legal custody.

A representative for Pacino confirmed the filing to Vanity Fair.

“Al and Noor have successfully worked together and have mutually reached agreements regarding their child Roman,” he said. “They are still together.”

Pacino signed a legal “voluntary declaration of parentage” six days after the child’s birth, which was included in the 29-year-old Alfallah’s filing. It establishes a legal parental relationship between the child and parent, and, according to California law, means that Pacino’s name can be included on the birth certificate.

Pacino has three other children from previous relationships: 33-year-old Julia Marie and 22-year-old twins Anton and Olivia. News of Alfallah and Pacino’s coming attraction broke in late May, when Alfallah was reportedly already eight months pregnant.

In California, legal custody gives parties a right to make decisions about the child’s life, including matters of education, welfare, and health care. Physical custody refers to who the child lives with. Though Pacino’s rep told VF that the couple were still together, he did not comment on whether they live in the same residence. California also defines “reasonable” visitation as open-ended. “They allow the parents to work it out between them,” a California Judicial Branch fact sheet on custody states. “This type of plan can work if parents get along very well, can be flexible, and communicate well.”

Pacino still works as an actor, and has one Oscar, for 1993’s The Scent of a Woman. He was nominated again in 2020 for The Irishman, and recently appeared in House of Gucci.
