Jennifer Love Hewitt joins 'Criminal Minds' cast

Jennifer Love Hewitt is shifting her focus from ghosts to the people who create them.

The star of Ghost Whisperer is joining the cast of CBS' Criminal Minds, which follows an elite FBI team on the hunt for serial killers.

Hewitt's character, Kate Callahan, is a seasoned undercover agent who joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit, which investigates the most twisted of crimes. Her character will be introduced during the 10th-season premiere of Minds (Oct. 1, 9 p.m. ET/PT), which also stars Joe Mantegna and Thomas Gibson.

"We're thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast," executive producer Erica Messer said in a statement. "Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again."

In addition to Ghost Whisperer, which ran for five seasons on CBS, Hewitt recently starred for two seasons in Lifetime's The Client List, which took an inside look at the massage business.
