Sun man braves Mark Wahlberg’s bonkers but gruelling day-to-day life from workouts to cyrotherapy cambers

Nick Pritchard tries a day in the life of Mark that includes getting up in the middle of the night for a weight-lifting session and golf before freezing himself in a cryotherapy chamber, and returning to the gym later in the day

A MUG of coffee in the morning, a chilled beer or wine in the evening, telly on and feet up.

That’s about the shape of it for most 47-year-olds – but not movie hunk Mark Wahlberg, who this week revealed the daily routine that keeps him in six-packs.

For movie muscleman Mark Wahlberg, getting up in the middle of the night to work out and freezing himself in a cryo chamber is his life

For movie muscleman Mark Wahlberg, getting up in the middle of the night to work out and freezing himself in a cryo chamber is his life

It includes getting up in the middle of the night for a weight-lifting session and golf before freezing yourself in a cryotherapy chamber, and returning to the gym later in the day. Then it’s time to collapse into bed for an ever-so-boring early night at 7.30pm – not most people’s idea of a good time.

But for movie muscleman Mark, star of boxing biopic The Fighter, sci-fi hits Transformers and

Planet Of The Apes, and racy drama Boogie Nights, that is life.

Here, Nick Pritchard tries a day in the life of Mark, and talkSPORT radio host Alan Brazil reveals his own routine.

2:30AM: Wake up

The alarm rings and, blimey, this is hard! I also doubt Mark wakes with a hangover but I’m a normal bloke so I went to bed at 11pm after having mates over for pizza and beers

2:45AM: Pray

Marky Mark is a devout Roman Catholic and spends 30 minutes on his knees every day. I’m struggling to keep my eyes open and am mainly praying for another hour in bed

3:15AM: Breakfast

I imagine Mark has his own kitchen staff to deliver the huge calorie count he needs but I grab the griddle myself. Last time I ate at 3am it was a kebab and most of it ended up on my trousers

3:40AM till 5:15AM: Workout

I cannot go to my usual gym as it doesn’t open until 8am. What a lazy bunch! They clearly lack the passion and drive that lands Mark all those movie roles. I make do with a jog – but could probably have done with a head torch

6:00AM: Shower

Mark inexplicably takes 90 minutes for this. What can he be doing in there? I’m also amazed he is awake for over three hours before washing, as I’m feeling really grubby already

7:30AM: Golf

Mark plays 30 minutes of golf each day. So I head to a driving range – and it is full of middle-aged men getting in some practice before work. Maybe Mr Wahlberg is not that unusual here

8AM: Snack

Protein bar and some blueberries, which apparently Mark loves. But I don’t have time to enjoy it as I must get to my cryotherapy session. This schedule is proving the perfect storm – I’m shattered and running late already

9:30AM: Cryo chamber

My teeth chatter and my legs shake as the freezing nitrogen vapour envelops me. It aids physical recovery but I guess I’m a lost cause

10:30AM: Snack

Once I’ve warmed up I do, indeed, feel invincible. The icy blast has put a spring in my step and blitzed my hangover. Smiling, I scoff a pack of chicken pieces, then an apple

11:00AM: Family time / Meetings / Work calls

I get to work all smug – I’ve been to the gym, played golf, frozen myself and eaten two meals. I make work calls, catch up on news and ring Mum

1:00PM: Lunch

Despite all the snacks I’ve had, I’m starving and decide to tuck into two bagels. Mark is a muscle-bound marvel and I tell myself that to get that big, you need to eat big

2:00PM: Meetings / Work calls

By 2pm, it’s all business for Mark. But according to his schedule, he works just three hours a day. I wonder if he can really get that much done

3:00PM: Pick up kids from school

Doting dad Mark finds time for this every day. I don’t have any kids but I did order a jacket the other day – and zoom round to the shop to pick that up. I embrace my new purchase with the same warmth as a dad would his child

3:30PM: Snack

Another ruddy snack. I now realise just how much Mark eats. I cram in a banana and a few nuts. I have my second workout of the day coming up soon and need the fuel

4:00PM: Workout 2

My day’s first workout, some 12 hours earlier, was a slog because I was still groggy, but it was easy compared to this. By now I’m knackered and my body aches all over

5:00PM: Shower

Mark gives himself 30 minutes for this return visit to the shower. I am still none the wiser about how he fills his time in there – but all I want to do is doze

5:30PM: Dinner

I’m back at my flat but barely have the energy to eat, let alone cook – so I just bung something in the microwave. I then nearly fall asleep, face down, in my plate

7:30PM: Bedtime

I am very sleepy but it feels insane hitting the sack now – there are kids playing in the street and it is light outside. Normally I’d go out for dinner, see friends, have a few drinks or chill with a movie – but there is no time for Boogie Nights in the life of Mr Wahlberg

My day isn't so Brazil nuts

LIKE Mark, talkSPORT radio breakfast host Alan Brazil gets out of bed early.

But that is where the similarities between the former Manchester United star’s day, and Mark’s, end.

After Mark went public with his regime, Alan hilariously revealed his own way of getting through the day.

Every day starts with the 59-year-old’s doting wife Jill bringing him a bowl of Frosties in bed – and after he knocks off from his breakfast broadcast shift at 11am, he heads straight to the pub.

Here we reveal Alan’s stress-free timetable...

  • 3:40  Alarm goes off.
  • 3:45  Wife Jill goes downstairs to get Alan a nice bowl of Frosties – and sometimes a toasted roll.
  • 5:30  Billy The Cab arrives to drive him to work.
  • 6:00 Starts work at central London studios.
  • 7:30  Sausage sandwich.
  • 10:30 Thinks about lunch.
  • 11:00 Visits The Wheatsheaf pub in Borough Market.
  • 13:00 Heads to the City, enjoys a second bottle of wine.
  • 15:30 Food, more wine and perhaps a sing-song.
  • 19:30 Quick stop in Sports Bar And Grill for dinner.
  • 20:30 Tunes in to the news and sport before bed.
