Kristen Stewart Debuted Her Blondest, Chunkiest Highlights Yet

She's bringing the '90s back, one highlight at a time.

Ever since last May, I personally have been quietly meditating on Kristen Stewart's ode to '90s boy bands at the Met Gala. You may remember that she stepped onto the pink carpet with a rooty brown, bleach blonde, and neon orange pixie that was designed to look "heartthrob floppy." It brought back memories of Chris Kirkpatrick and Brian Littrell, and apparently, I'm not the only one who remembered it. With the help of her colorists, Kristen brought back the '90s chunky highlight — this time with a twist.

Since Kristen is in the midst of doing press for her movie Underwater and not in costume for a camp-themed event, she skipped the bright orange and stuck to thick golden blonde highlights painted atop a deeper brown shade.

Colorists Amber Maynard Bolt and CJ Romero of Nine Zero One Salon took credit for the look on Instagram. "Got to take this epic human lighter," Amber wrote. "She said 'more blonde' we said 'no problem,'" CJ then added.

Earlier this month, we predicted that high-contrast color would return as one fo the top hair trends of 2020. "There is a cooler and stronger way for [highlights] for 2020 — let's call it ‘Chanel Color.’ It's updated high-contrast. Some of your hair [has to go] darker than natural and some lighter to create contrast," colorist Christine Thompson told Allure at the time. (Don't forget, Kristen herself is a longtime Chanel ambassador.)

Kristen never keeps one hairstyle or shade for long, so we expect to see her in a totally new look soon — but, unfortunately for me, I'm already attached to this one.
