A Source Revealed Why Hugh Jackman’s Surprising Divorce Was Actually ‘A Long Time Coming’

After 27 years of marriage and many seemingly loving public appearances, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’s divorce comes as quite a surprise to everyone — except for those in their inner circle apparently.

A source told Page Six that the split, which was announced on September 15, was “a long time coming.” The couple, who share two children — Oscar Maximilian Jackman, 23, and Ava Eliot Jackman, 18, who were adopted after the couple struggled to conceive naturally and via IVF — shared a joint statement with People Friday.

“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they said. “Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness,” continued Jackman, 54, and Furness, 67. “We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”

They concluded the statement by signing “Deb and Hugh Jackman,” and added, “This is the sole statement either of us will make.” However, it didn’t take long for an alleged insider to share more claims about the split.

“It happened a while ago. Friends and family knew about it,” a source described as a “Broadway insider” told Page Six. Jackman returned to the Broadway stage in 2022 to appear in “The Music Man” but the source claims he and Deborra-Lee were already having problems by then.

“Deb wasn’t at rehearsals very much,” the insider alleged, adding that she “was even spotted snoozing during some of them.” We’re not sure this is grounds for divorce or even a sign of marital problems — maybe she was just having a long day!

Publicly, Jackman and Furness seemed as happy as ever until the announcement of their split. The couple recently appeared together at the Met Gala in May and Jackman even shared a gushing tribute for Furness on their 27th wedding anniversary in April.

“I love you Deb,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”
