This time a new hero emerges in the form of a normal-sized, troubled high school student clad in a metallic suit.       Jeff B I was a kid in the early 70s and Ultraman was one of my favorite shows to watch so it's only natural that I like this as much as the original. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review PAL T²C² (TongueToCheekCelluloid) Ultraman is a send off to Japan's 1950's and '60:s iconic Toho Co. /Honda written & directed Monster films . I love these littie easter egg nuggets ....such as The USS Enterprise dryly sat in several scenes , undoubtedly as a tribute to George Takei from Star Trek .. If you ever wondered who that guy was who translated Japanese into English and sounded almost too American in those classic Japanese monster films, that was a very young George , well before he was trained as a Helmsman . I believe he was still in school for some of that . But this is just one example of the subtle humor, the shots at politics, power , the balance of power and all these subjects that were handled with humor . I appreciate well written films in these times of formulas , big production and safe, lack of originality in execution. And this is a well written film absolutely worth checking out Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/23 Full Review John K Basically the first season is the journey of a reluctant hero. The highlight of the first season is the simmering Dan Moroboshi. There's nothing better on TV today than watching him get annoyed with Shin and basically tell him he's a pampered dirtbag as he adjusts aliens with his katana.       Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse Apart from the animation style, which definitely needs some getting used to, "Ultraman" is a great title, as it combines shonen-level battle with much depth, which, in essence, make it a title addressed to adults instead of teenagers.
