Circumpolar in the Southern Ocean, the Wandering Albatross is the largest of all albatrosses, some having a wingspan in excess of 350 cm. They are long-lived with life spans that can exceed that of a human. Capable of flying 1,200 km each day, some may travel over 180,000 km in a single year. Wanderers start life in the garb of a ‘gooney,’ all brown with a white clown-like face and will not reach their pristine black and while adult plumage until 15 years of age.
