Wolfgang Sawallisch, the prince of orchestra conducting, is one of the world’s greatest conductors. In spite of his multiple activities all over the world he took his role as artistic director of the OSR very seriously. Under his guidance the orchestre expanded its repertoire significantly to include the works of Mahler and Bruckner, seldom heard until before then in French speaking Switzerland. Wolfgang Sawallisch will always be one of the orchestra’s best loved guest conductors, loved not only by the musicians but by the French-Swiss public.
