Reynolds, eager to explore a new sporting endeavor beyond football, had his sights set on purchasing the Ottawa Senators, a National Hockey League (NHL) team up for sale following the passing of owner Eugene Melnyk. Together with real estate developers The Remington Group, Reynolds put forth a bid worth over $900 million, hoping to be part of a consortium to acquire the team. But, alas, fate had other plans.
At the eleventh hour, Reynolds withdrew his offer after his request for an extension, crucial for securing a new stadium for the ice hockey franchise, was denied.
Undeterred by this setback, Reynolds made efforts to immerse himself in the world of ice hockey. He met with the mayor of Ottawa and even attended a Senators game, showing his genuine interest in the sport. Nevertheless, businessman Michael Andlauer now appears to be the frontrunner to purchase the club, leaving Reynolds to focus his attention elsewhere.
