🌐 It's World Telecommunication and Information Society Day! This year's #WTISD focuses on 'empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies,' but how can we achieve that in a world so fragmented? The answer lies in acting together through standards to support local interests. Nokia is actively trying to facilitate the evolution of standardization to meet the needs of local geopolitical realities. US signs on to international principles for 6G In conjunction with nine other countries, the U.S. released six new principles intended to guide a global 6G wireless connectivity adoption. 6G The White House issued a joint statement together with the governments from Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Sweden and the United Kingdom on a series of new shared principles on 6G spectrum research and development. Shared on Monday, the six principles are focused on securing global telecommunications infrastructure and will help inform relevant policy adoption. They include installing technology systems that protect national security; secure individual communications and privacy; work with industry partners to set inclusive international standards; cooperate to enable interoperability and innovation; ensure global connectivity is both affordable and sustainable; and manage spectrum allocations. “We believe this to be an indispensable contribution towards building a more inclusive, sustainable, secure, and peaceful future for all, and call upon other governments, organizations, and stakeholders to join us in supporting and upholding these principles,” the press release reads.

Today is World Telecommunications and Information Society Day! This day was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1969 to raise awareness of the role of information and communication technologies in our daily lives. Over the past century, telecommunications have advanced tremendously, allowing people to connect with each other no matter where they are in the world. But as we celebrate these technological advances, we must also consider the negative impacts they can have on individuals and societies, such as the spread of misinformation and the digital divide. Let's use this day to reflect on how we can use technology for the greater good and bridge the gap between those who have access to it and those who don't. #WTISD #InformationSocietyDay #Telecommunications #DigitalDivide #TechnologyForGood

Another stellar debate at the GSMA Brussels office! Last week's event shed light on the urgent reforms needed for Europe's telecoms (and, by extension, competitiveness) to thrive. The launch of the "New Rules for a New Era" manifesto and the EU Commission's digital infrastructure white paper marks a bold step towards Europe’s digital future. 🌍💡 Here is what we unpacked 👇

Yesterday, ATIS, along with the other 3GPP Organizational Partners, issued a press release announcing 3GPP's commitment to developing 6G Specifications. In particular, I would like to draw your attention to the quote from Susan Miller, ATIS President and CEO: “Mobile technology uniquely underpins innovation in many parts of society and the global economy. 3GPP’s ongoing 5G work delivers valuable technology for global customers. Further improvements through the 5G Advanced lifecycle will help ensure 5G’s operational importance. Looking forward, industry, users and government have expressed growing interest in 6G’s potential to not only deliver new services but to optimize existing ones. ATIS’ Next G Alliance has developed a comprehensive 6G roadmap for North America that will serve as a basis for our input to 3GPP global 6G standardization.”
3GPP Commits to Develop 6G Specifications 3GPP Organizational Partners: ARIB, ATIS, CCSA, ETSI, TSDSI, TTA and TTC announced that 3GPP will develop the next generation of global communications specifications. Based on its success over several technology generations — from 3G to 5G — 3GPP is uniquely positioned to develop the standard for the sixth generation of mobile systems or “6G”. https://lnkd.in/d95iCTim
