UnitedHealth says hackers likely stole files containing the personal information of a “substantial proportion” of Americans earlier this year.
The cyberattack happened in February on the company’s “Change” health care business, which is used to submit and process insurance claims.
UnitedHealth says there is no evidence to suggest doctor charts or full medical histories were stolen.
The company warns it could be several months before it can identify and notify those impacted.
It launched a website and call center to answer questions and concerns about the cyberattack.
