AC Milan dismissed manager Filippo Inzaghi after a disappointing season in which the side finished 10th in Serie A and failed to qualify for Europe.

Inzaghi, who spent 10 years at the club as a player, struggled throughout much of a campaign that brought their lowest number of wins since 2001 and his future had long been questioned.

"AC Milan communicate that Filippo Inzaghi has been discharged of his responsibilities as first team coach. The club thank him for his work," the club said in a statement on their website.

Serbian Sinisa Mihajlovic, who stepped down as Sampdoria coach earlier this month, is among the favourites to take the job
