Sepia-toned Kossuth photograph of a young Stokowski from the chest up in a
suit-and-tie, signed "with thanks for such musical pleasure".
Inscribed photograph signed "To Tolcha Geisl with thanks for such/musical pleasure
Leopold Stokowski." B/w sepia-toned, 7½x10¾ overall, 6½x9¼ image, one surface, printed
on cardstock. Embossed near lower edge: "Kossuth/Wheeling, W.Va". Stokowski
(1882-1977, born Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England)
conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra
(1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony
(1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He was known for his
lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the
music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Lightly toned, stained and rippled. Mounting remnants
on verso near top edge, which have visible ripples on front that touch signature. Pencil notes
(unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise in fine condition.
