Jan Lukas Becker Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. – In a historic first for Mississippi College, Jan Lukas Becker, a standout member of the Mississippi College Men's Cross Country team, has been honored as the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) National Athlete of the Week. This accolade comes on the heels of his stellar performance at the 2023 Watson College Cross Country Classic.

At the Classic, Becker set the course ablaze by establishing a new school and Choctaw Trails course record, posting a time of 23:29 in the Men's 8K. This feat, breaking his own previous record by an impressive 21 seconds, was a highlight at one of the most competitive gatherings of collegiate cross country talent in the region.

This recognition marks the first time a Mississippi College athlete has received this prestigious national distinction, underscoring the growing prominence and competitiveness of the Choctaws in the broader collegiate atmosphere in athletics.

The entire Mississippi College community, from students and faculty to alumni and supporters, has reason to celebrate. This honor is not just about the success of a single athlete but reflects the collective spirit, drive, and excellence that Mississippi College nurtures.

The team anticipates further success at the upcoming Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships, as Becker and the team remain focused and ready to build on their recent achievements.
