"Pear quality is satisfactory, but current sales are not as good as this time last year"

The new season pears from various producing regions in China have entered the market one after another. According to a pear wholesaler, due to the good climate in the producing areas, the quality this year is ideal: "The overall quality of pears this year is particularly good. In terms of production, the production of Hebei pears has declined, while the production of Shanxi, Henan, and Shandong has increased. The output is the same as in previous years. In terms of price, due to the impact of the current economic environment, the price is close to last year, and it shows a trend of decline from a high starting point. Recently, the price has been relatively low, but the sales volume is not large.”

"The volume of pears in the same period last year was quite large, but the current sales volume is mediocre. Pears are mainly sold in wholesale markets. Taking Guangzhou Fruit Wholesale Market as an example, the sales volume has decreased by half compared with the same period last year. The situation in other wholesale markets is similar. The overall fruit market this year is relatively weak. In terms of e-commerce, the situation is relatively better, and the sales of pears have been stable and rising in the past two years."

The wholesaler also said that the purchasing power of overseas markets has declined this year, the demand has decreased, and the export situation is still unclear. The export markets of pears include Southeast Asia, Russia, Europe, and the United States.

The mainstream varieties of Chinese pears are Crown pears and Ya pears. It is reported that the picking of Crown pears has been completed and the fruits are now in storage, while the picking of Ya pears has just started, and the season will last for one and a half months.

Regarding market trends, merchants said that this year's pear inventory pressure is high, and it is believed that sales will improve before the Mid-Autumn Festival, but the sales volume is expected to be less than the same period last year; the future trend of pears depends on the development of the overall economic environment.
