Does ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’ Have A Post-Credits Scene?

Following

The monster Titans are back. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire made its epic big-screen debut on March 29. Going to watch the MonsterVerse film in theaters? Find out whether Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire has an after-credits scene that teases what’s next for the franchise.

Directed by Adam Wingard, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the fifth film in the MonsterVerse franchise. In this sequel, Godzilla and the almighty Kong team up to defeat “a colossal threat” within the planet that threatens their existence and the survival of the human race. The film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen.

For the sequel, Wingard said he wanted to focus more on the monsters and less on the human story. “I felt it was time to make the movie I wanted to see, where the monsters’ point of view is guiding us,” the director told USA Today.

He continued, “My mission is to create a world where you believe monsters really coexist with humans, and then deliver a character study of, in this case, Kong, and his emotional journey,” Wingard explained. “Plus these movies take a long time to make, so they won’t be saturating the market.”

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is projected to open with $50 million domestically and $125 million globally at the box office. If you’re headed to see the film in theaters, find out whether it’s worth staying in your seat as the credits roll.

Does Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Have An End-Credits Scene?

No, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire does not have a post-credits scene. This is surprising because The New Empire is a franchise movie, so it’s not uncommon for filmmakers to add a mid- or post-credit scene at the end to tease what’s next.

Warner Bros. has yet to greenlight a third Godzilla x Kong film, which could explain why there isn’t a post-credits scene. However, Wingard told USA Today he’ll “never say never” to a third movie, adding, “When you do two movies like this back to back, you do wonder, do we make it a trilogy?”

While there isn’t a post-credits scene, the director hinted that he deliberately sprinkled “a number of Easter eggs into this movie that, if you spend some time freeze-framing, you might catch some hints of where we can go from here.”

Although Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and The New Empire lacks end credits, other MonsterVerse movies have included them, like 2017’s Kong: Skull Island (which introduced Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah) and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters (where Alan Jonah is offered Ghidorah’s severed head).

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is now playing in theaters.
