Who are Slater Young and Kryz Uy and where does their fortune come from?

Jan Slater Lee Young was born on December 19, 1987, to John and Salome Young. Though Young's construction expertise has only received attention recently, his interest in the industry goes back years owing to his father's steel building manufacturing company in Mandaue.

Young shared that even as a kid, he would accompany his dad to construction sites where he would inspect and assess areas to talk about rights, wrongs, and what could've been done better. In another vlog, he shared the idyllic modern log cabin house that he grew up in which inspired the couple's current house, Skypod.

Krystle "Kryz" Gail Uy was born on January 10, 1990, to Johnny and Irene Uy in Cebu. Not much is known about the exact business dealings of her parents, but the family has ties to home store Mandaue Foam which sells everything from bed and bath decor to houseware and other home furnishing accessories.

The couple received education from the country's top universities.

Young attended the Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu for secondary school. He holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of San Carlos in Cebu City. In school, he was active in sports such as table tennis and competitive shooting.

Uy is a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in communications technology with a minor in enterprise development. She also spent a semester abroad studying luxury brand management in Paris' Mod’Art International.

Both have made a name for themselves in different industries.

Instead of taking over their family's businesses, Uy and Young carved their own path through different industries. Young, for one, stepped back from working as an engineer to explore acting and showbusiness. He entered the industry by modeling, eventually appearing in the hit reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Unlimited. There, he was dubbed the Hotshot Engineer of Cebu.

On March 31, 2012, Young became the reality show's first male winner. He took home a P2 million cash prize, an appliance showcase, an Asian tour package, an internet television set, a water-refilling store franchise, and a special appearance in a Kapamilya program in the U.S. After his stint in Pinoy Big Brother, he appeared in several television shows and two films.

He seemingly retired from acting in 2014. These days, he keeps busy with his business LiteBlock as well as vlogging from an engineer's perspective on YouTube.

Uy's career started in 2009 after starting a blog in 2009 for a school project. In her blog, she posted personal stories and sharing outfit posts. Since then, she's become one of the leading fashion bloggers in the Philippines. In 2017, she added author to her long list of job titles with the launch of her book Behind the Blog.

These days, she's more active on Instagram and YouTube where she posts about her daily life, including style, fashion, being a mother, and even their house, Skypod. Together, the couple have taken over YouTube with their vlogs. Most recently, they launched a podcast.

Uy and Young got hitched in their hometown of Cebu in 2019. The couple chose to hold their wedding at the picturesque Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu. Guests included Laureen Uy, Camille Co, David Guison, and more.

Uy wore an intricately beaded wedding gown by famed fashion designer Francis Libiran. A custom-made wedding gown from the designer starts at P300,000.

The family's Cebu house tour of the Skypod has 4.9 million YouTube views.

The backdrop for most of the couple's YouTube videos is their house named Skypod. The whole house was completed after a year of planning, constructing, and buying numerous furnishings. "This house was designed to have a very cabin feel, but a very modern version of a log cabin, staycation home. "What we wanted is it to be very open, and can't-quite-know-where-the-indoor-outdoor-area-is," Young says. The house is filled with natural light, and is equipped with a living area, dining area, home office, walk-in closet, and a lap pool.
