Franz Schubert -the  last of the classical composers and one of the first romantic ones.


Franz Schubert 1797-1828) was a great Austrian composer, author of 9 symphonies, six hundred vocal compositions and a huge number of musical works for piano.
A famous representative of the Romanticism trend. His work has not lost its relevance.

Franz Peter Schubert was born on January 31, 1797 in the suburbs of Vienna. His musical abilities manifested themselves early enough.


He got his first music lessons at home. His father taught him how to play the violin, and his older brother taught him how to play the piano.

At the age of six, Franz Peter entered Lichtental Parish School. 

The future composer had a surprisingly beautiful voice. Thanks to this, at the age of 11, he was accepted as a "singing boy" to the capital's court chapel.

Until 1816. Schubert studied with A. Salieri. He learned the basics of composition and counterpoint.

Composer's talent manifested itself as a teenager. Studying the biography of Franz Schubert, it should be noted that between 1810 and 1813 he created several songs, pieces for piano, symphony and opera.

In 1813, his voice began to break and was expelled from the choir.

The path to art began with Schubert's acquaintance with baritone I. Min. Voglem. He performed several songs by aspiring composer, and they quickly gained popularity. The first serious success of the young composer was brought by Goethe's ballad "Forest King" transferred to the music. January 1818 was marked by the publication of the musician's first composition.

The composer's brief biography was rich in events. He met and became friends with A. Hüttenbrennerham, I. Mayrhofen, A. Milder-Hauptman.


As devoted fans of the musician's work, they often helped him with money.

In July 1818. Schubert went to Zheliz. Teaching experience allowed him to get a job as a music teacher for Count I. Eszterhazy. In the second half of November, the musician returned to Vienna.

Songs from the composer's latest collection, "Swan Song", have gained fame all over the world. Analysis of Schubert's work shows that he was a brave and original musician.
He didn't walk along the road beaten by Beethoven, but chose his way. This is especially noticeable in the quintet for the piano "Trout", as well as in the Sea Minor "Unfinished Symphony".

Schubert left a lot of church works. Of these, Mass No. 6 in E flat major became the most popular.

Illness and death

1823 was marked by the election of Schubert as an honorary member of the musical unions in Linz and Styria. The summary of the musician's biography says that he claimed the position of court vice-capellemeister.

Schubert's only public concert took place on March 26, 1828. 

He was a huge success and brought him a small fee. Piano works and composer's song have been published.

Schubert died of typhoid fever in November 1828. He was under 32 years old. 

During his short life, the musician was able to do the most important thing - to realize his amazing gift.

Long after the death of the musician, no one could put together all his manuscripts. 

Some of them were lost forever.

One of the interesting facts is that most of his works began to be published only at the end of the XX century. Schubert is often compared to W. A. Mozart.


Schubert was able to buy only a bed for the fee from the concert. The great composer was buried next to his teacher and idol - L. C. Beethoven.
