Waterproof pogo pins connect in soaking environments

Adam Tech Interconnects has created waterproof spring-loaded ‘pogo’ pins.

Such pins, soldered through one PCB, allow them to connect to copper pads on another PCB, or to other conductive objects, with some tolerance to mating distance variation.

“These DIP Pins are designed with an inner rubber seal and offer an IP rating to prevent moisture from entering the pin around the seams of the barrel,” said distributor New Yorker Electronics, which is stocking the parts. “Currently available in through-hole orientation for board mounting, other styles will soon be available.”

The sealing ring is silicone and the pin is rated to IP67, according to the data sheet. The metal parts are gold plated (96hr salt spray). As an aside, the ball (see diagram) is made of zirconia.

Electrical ratings are 12Vdc, 10A and 50mΩ max.

Contact force is 175g ±20g as 1.8mm displacement – max stroke is 2.5mm (230g ±20%)

Rated life is 20,000 cycles.

Overall length is 12.7mm, and diameters are 2.0mm behind the shoulder, 2.3mm in front and the pin is 1.2mm.
