According to Latino Review, insiders have stated their intention to sign the Hangover star.

Director James Gunn recently told Hey You Guys that they had somebody in mind for the part.

He said: "We'll have to wait for a few weeks to see. We'll get our dream guy, because a lot of people want to do it, so we'll get the person who's perfect for the role."

Casting for the animated role has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel.

Guardians of the Galaxy will star Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Zoe Saldana and Glenn Close, and is currently in production at the UK's Shepperton Studios for release in summer 2014.

The film centres on a jet pilot called Peter Quill who must bring together a team of aliens - among them Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket Raccoon - to see off threats to the galaxy.
