Best Kim Ji-won K-dramas to watch after Queen of Tears

Kim Ji-won will play a riveting lead role in Netflix’s Queen of Tears as Hong Hae-in – adding to some of her most well-recognized K-drama accomplishments.

Alongside Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Ji-won will play the role of a chaebol heir of Queen’s Group in the K-drama. She’s known among many for her cold and allusive demeanor in charge of her family’s department store. The romantic comedy K-drama focuses on her marriage to her husband.

As their marriage goes through a rough patch, they look back on their relationship and re-spark their love. Actor Kim is well known among K-drama fans for some of her roles in classic storylines like The Heirs as Rachel Yoo. As well as the crime series Gap-dong as Ma Ji-wool.

Queen of Tears has fans excited for her leading role as a cold chaebol heir and adds to her roster of must-watch K-dramas.

Descendants of the Sun

A medical doctor ventures to a war-ridden country and remeets her old flame. It leads them to dive back into their old feelings for each other amid their professional duty.

Kim Ji-won played one of the leading roles in Descendants of the Sun K-drama as Yoon Myung-joo, a medical doctor and daughter to the Lieutenant General. The K-drama focuses on Captain Yoo Si-jin (Song Joong-ki) a special ops solider who meets Doctor Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye-kyo) while stopping a thief on vacation.

The two are immediately attracted to each other but Si-jin’s secret profession and their ethics push them apart. Months later, they meet in the war-ridden country of Uruk. Mo-yeon ventures with her team as forced volunteers. Old feelings resurface amid growing tensions of war.

The K-drama was also well received for its second-lead couple between Si-jin’s friend Seo Dae-young (Jin Goo) and Mo-yeon’s former rival Myung-ju.

Descendants of the Sun is available to stream on Viki and Hulu.

Fight For My Way

Two lifelong friends enter a new chapter of their lives when realizing their new feelings for each other as they figure out their lives.

Fight For My Way is a romantic comedy classic among K-drama fans. Ko Dong-man (Park Seo-joon) and Choi Ae-ra (Kim Ji-won) have been friends and neighbors for years. Ae-ra is sassy and strong and dreams of becoming an announcer, but never qualifies.

Meanwhile, Dong-man was once a great martial arts athlete with a painful past. The two characters look for ways to change their fates and fall in love on the way.

Arthdal Chronicles

In a made-up land called Arth, a group of characters living in Arthdal struggle with various enemies vying for power, as the main character looks to restore his people’s former glory and learns of his destiny.

One of Kim Jin-won’s biggest K-dramas was her role as Tan-ya in Arthdal Chronicles. The K-drama has been praised by many for its fantasy storylines and its epic cinematography. Three characters are at the heart of the story with Eun-seom (Song Joong-ki) being fated to bring destruction to Arthdal. He spends his life in struggle and reappears in Arthdal.

Ta-gon (Jang Dong-gun) is a successful war hero who has driven Arthdal to prosperity. He dreams of becoming the next king. Intermixed in their story is Tan-ya, also born with the same fate as Eun-seom. She takes her role seriously as a successor of the Wahan Tribe driven to become a politician.

My Liberation Notes

A group of siblings yearns to escape their mundane lives and hardships as they find their true purpose in life. Along the way, they meet a mysterious man.

My Liberation Notes is regarded as a powerhouse Slice of Life K-drama that tackles the many complex aspects of life. Ki-jeong, Mi-jeong (Lee El), and Chang-hee (Lee Min-ki) are siblings stuck in the routine of their lives wondering if there’s more to strive for.

Chang-hee is the middle child who wants to escape his hometown but has no real life plans or dreams. Gi-jeong is the youngest and also wants to escape her boring life amid feeling lonely and unfulfilled. Ki-jeong is the oldest with a temper whose life is filled with people’s complaints. She searches for real love.

All three characters meet the mysterious Mr. Gu (Son Suk-ku). A man who has come to work for their father but keeps his past a secret.

Lovestruck in the City

An architect and freelance marketer meet at the beach and fall in love. But when she disappears, he’s left with a broken heart remembering her – until they meet again and learn the truth about each other.

Lovestruck in the City is a romance K-drama that had fans hooked and crying. Park Jae-won (Ji Chang-wook) is a passionate and honest architect who takes time off to go to the beach. While there, he meets Yoon Seon-a. The two embark on a passionate love story that’s short-lived.

Seon-a disappears, leaving behind Jae-won’s broken heart. In a surprise twist, Jae-won meets Seon-a through mutual friends and learns her real name is Lee Eun-o. She lives her life through an alternate persona. The K-drama is told in a documentary style with the characters explaining their thoughts on love and relationships.
