'It was f***ing painful!' Daniel Radcliffe admits to having his bottom waxed ahead of going nude in play Equus

Daniel Radcliffe has revealed he had his bottom waxed for a theatre role.

The 24-year-old star used a technique called sugaring to remove his the hair on his behind when he had to strip naked for stage play Equus in 2007.

The 'painful' technique involves a combination of products like honey, lemon juice and sugar which are applied to the skin and pulled off along with the hair.

Daniel told EMPIRE magazine: 'When I first did Equus I was very self conscious about a*se hair, so I made the ill fated decision to have it removed via a process called sugaring.

'It was f***ing painful. I had it done once and I no longer care about my hairy a*se! But it's not as bad as you'd think. I'm probably only a six on the a*se!'

Daniel was catapulted into the spotlight as boy wizard Harry Potter in the film franchise - based on J.K. Rowling's children's books - and since he left the role he has made it his mission to prove he is a talented actor and not just a child star who got lucky.

The star thinks his part in Equus - in which he played 17-year-old suburban stable boy Alan Strang - was 'important' and it helped show off his acting prowess.

He previously said: 'Doing Equus was important. It showed people that I wasn't just here to capitalise on the Potter fame for as long as I could.

'I think ultimately, I'm ambitious because I want to prove everyone wrong who thinks that it's impossible to emerge from Harry Potter and do well.'

It was revealed earlier this week that Daniel has been cast as Sebastian Coe in a film drama entitled Gold - created around his rivalry with fellow athlete Steve Ovett in the years leading up to the Moscow Olympic Games.

Daniel will reunite with The Woman in Black director James Watkins on the project, while Simon Beaufoy and Will Davies will co-write the script.

The film will be produced by Joanna Anderson, Vicky Licorish and Kevin Loader, and financing will be provided by Ingenious Senior Film Fund.
