Zubin Mehta (b. 1936)

At home, Brentwood, Los Angeles
15 January 1977

Mehta is an Indian conductor widely praised for his interpretations of large-scale symphonies. In 1981, he was appointed Music Director for Life of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

‘As he was leaving, he [Mehta] spoke of ‘we artists’ and then turned to me and said, ‘Well, you’re an artist, too, just like I am’, recalled Schwartz.
