Gustav Mahler

“Man ist sozusagen selbst nur ein Instrument, auf dem das Universum spielt.”

In Wien: war ich Direktor der k.u.k. Hofoper von 1897 bis 1907. Eine große Ehre, vor allem da ich erst 37 Jahre alt war. 

Zur Person: Bekannt bin ich als Komponist und Dirigent. 

Außerdem reformierte ich das Bühnenbild der Opern (Farbe, Licht, Dekoration). Ich wollte, dass eine Einheit zwischen musikalischer und szenischer Darstellung ent- steht und eine Rollendarstellung der Opernsänger. 

Wussten Sie: Für einige Jahre wurde ich zum strengen Vegetarier. Man bot mir übrigens auch die Direktion des New Yorker Opernhauses „Met“ an. Ich lehnte ab.

In Vienna: I was director of the k.u.k. Hofoper (today's Vienna State Opera) from 1897 to 1907. A particularly great honour, especially since I was only 37 years old.

About me: I am known as a composer and conductor. I also reformed the stage design of the operas (color, light, decoration). I wanted a unity to emerge between the musical and theatrical presentation and a portrayal of the role of the opera singers.

Fun Fact: For a few years I became a strict vegetarian. Incidentally, I  was also offered the management of the New York opera house "Met". I declined.
