Brussels lays out the red carpet—of flowers

600,000 begonias. One UNESCO World Heritage Site in Brussels. And one colossal carpet. This is a story that dates back to 1971, and recurs every two years in the month of August. The idea of this Japanese-themed floral installation is to celebrate the long friendship between Belgium and the Land of the Rising Sun. And this year will mark the 20th carpet to be laid out in celebration—and the 150th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

If you want to have a look at this unique style to celebrate anniversaries (and get some ideas for personal ones of your own!) head to Brussels' La Grand-Place sometime between 13 and 15 August.
