This OBD reader has saved myself (and coworkers) hundreds of dollars. I do a lot of my own maintenance work on my cars, in some instances I can do the repairs and some I take it to a shop. Knowing the code before showing up to the shop may save you a lot of money. I will explain below.
Even if you don't do a lot of mechanics this is a good little tool to have. I decided to get one after my wife had a check engine light come on, she took it to a dealer and paid the $30.00 fee to have it diagnosed. They said it was an exhaust system sensor malfunction and a big portion of the exhaust was needing replacement, this repair was quoted at $800.00. We could not afford that at the time so that night I came to Amazon and purchased this unit as it was quick shipping and a decent price. It came in a few days.
I plugged it into my wife's car and was shocked when I saw that the check engine light was due to the gas cap not being on right after she refueled the morning it turned on. I literally walked to the drivers side unscrewed and screwed the cap back in and bam light turned off.
I am not saying all mechanics are sketchy, but this saved us hundreds. I have since used it for co-workers who have had lights come on. I have helped them replace parts as well.

I would recommend, even if used once every so often you could be potentially saving yourself a lot of money.
