Kristen Stewart's New Haircut Is the Grunge Version of the Classic Pixie

She's returned to short, dark hair after a long, blonde detour.

No one does grunge hair better than Kristen Stewart. The actor has done buzz cuts, textured bobs, peroxide bleach, rockabilly, and the rest, and she somehow always hits the right note. At Chanel's spring/summer 2023 show in Paris, she did it yet again. As she took her place on the front row, Stewart showed off a new and suitably punk mullet cut — think a grunge Princess Diana, as one particularly enamored Vogue staffer put it.

A big transformation from her last look — Stewart was last seen in June with a mid-length blonde chop and extended roots — and the new hairstyle comes courtesy of her longtime hairstylist, Adir Abergel. The style is defined by a choppy semi-micro fringe and layers around the face, alongside the traditional hallmarks of the mullet, an edgy style that has been super popular this year in salons.

While the mullet is, by all accounts, a divisive haircut, Stewart's style really suits her face — plus, she has the attitude and confidence to pull it off. Ask hairstylists which styles suit which face shapes and most will say that it doesn't actually matter, that it's all about how you wear it. If the haircut is wearing you and not the other way around, then you know it's not the right choice for you.

Stewart paired her new hair, a deep shade of brunette, effortlessly textured, with an autumnal bronze eye and an alabaster complexion — subtle, smoky and sexy. Consider this the perfect alternative haircut for autumn.
