Academics
Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) is one of the four specialized schools of Jönköping University, a private university of 12,000 students in southern Sweden. JIBS is truly an international business school, with nearly one third of its students and faculty coming from outside of Sweden and representing 80 different countries. Attending JIBS as an exchange student is an ideal way to familiarize yourself with the European business environment in an internationally-minded setting.
A wide range of business courses are available in English at the undergraduate and graduate level. Students should refer to the JIBS online course catalog for complete listings. A full course load at JIBS is 30 ECTS credits; in most cases, this is four courses.
No prior knowledge of Swedish is required to participate in this program, as coursework is offered in English, but JIBS offers a Swedish language course for interested students. Complete course information can be found in their online
course catalog.
Accommodation
Exchange students are guaranteed student housing through the Accommodation Office, which offers a variety of housing types, including single or shared rooms, and apartment- or dorm-style living. Students may choose to prepare their meals in shared kitchens or purchase meals in cafeterias around campus. The campus is located in the city center, and housing options are scattered around the city but always accessible to campus by public transportation. For full information about housing on the JIBS exchange, please visit the Jönköping University
Accommodation Office webpage.
Student Life and Surroundings
Exchange students have the opportunity to become integrated into an international university community and experience life in Sweden. A Buddy Program, as well as living and studying alongside Swedish and international peers in student accommodation allows students to form connections with their peers.
Jönköping is a fast-growing city of 130,000 located in southern Sweden, on the shore of Lake Vattern. The JIBS campus is located in the city center, and the city is easily navigable on foot, bicycle, and public transportation. Jönköping and the surrounding area are home to a variety of cafés, shops, cultural venues, and recreational activities. Jönköping is also connected to the rest of Sweden and the region by air, bus, and train.
Cost of Attendance, Financial Aid, and Scholarships
Exchange programs are affordable study abroad options that allow students to pay UW-W tuition while studying abroad. As with all approved study abroad programs, UW-W financial aid can be used on this program. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for the Wisconsin Grant for Study Abroad, and UW-W and external study abroad scholarships are available.
UW-W tuition, as well as the Global Experiences Application Fee and CISI international insurance, are billed to the student’s UW-W account. Other expenses are paid individually (e.g. living expenses) or to the host university (e.g. accommodation).
