The three day Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh conclave titled “Future of Bharat: An RSS Perspective”, which was scheduled from September 17 to 19 has been a shocker for most of the people. It is evident from the conclave that RSS desperately wants to undergo image makeover before 2019 general elections. The chief of the RSS Sri Mohan Bhagwat tried his best to send the message across the country that RSS is inclusive.

Though RSS wants a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ but also advocates Muslims in it. It was a shocker for many when Sri Mohan Bhagwat narrated the contribution of Congressmen in the Independence of India.

This is the first time when Mr Bhagwat said that RSS never instructs its volunteers to work or promote a particular political party.

Now if we go deep into this statement we will notice a sense of bitterness between RSS and BJP. Now with such statement, the RSS wants BJP to realize its importance before 2019 general elections. Answering a query about the politics of polarization, he said the politics should be for the welfare of people and the medium of this is power.

“If this happens then what J.P. (Jayaprakash Narayan), (Mahatma) Gandhi had expected… then this question will not arise. Shamshan, kabristan, saffron terror all these issues will not come up. These crop up when politics is practised for power and not for the welfare of people,” he said.

The remarks could be seen as a veiled criticism of the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the assembly election in Uttar Pradesh last year and the Congress description of saffron terror.

There is no doubt that the RSS is a powerful factor given the nature and discipline of its volunteers on the field. Both BJP and RSS leadership are well aware of the fact that they have to work in sync to win the 2019 General Elections.
