Stroke is the second commonest cause of death in India. About 1,85,000 strokes occur every year in India with nearly one stroke death every 4 minutes.

​Respiratory diseases​

In India, 2020 saw the highest incidences of persons dying of respiratory illnesses in a decade, according to the Registrar General of India (RGI) report. Around 1,81,160 deaths occurred due to respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, asthma and bronchitis.

Diarrhea is one of the leading causes of deaths in children under age 5, and claims approximately 1.1 lakh lives in India every year.

India, along with 7 other countries, accounts for more than two thirds of the global total of new TB cases in 2020.

Estimated mortality due to cancer in India has increased to 8,08,558 in 2022, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Rajya Sabha in December 2022.

​Unintentional injuries​

Annually, 0.15 million people lose their lives due to accidental injuries/road traffic accidents in India. The country accounts for 11 per cent of the accident-related deaths worldwide.
