This authentic, vintage Womb chair and ottoman set was designed by Eero Saarinen and manufacturered by Knoll. As the story goes, Florence Knoll asked Saarinen to design a chair that is as comfortable as "a basket full of pillows." This piece has been reupholstered in new, buttery soft leather by Spinneybeck. This is the same premium brand of leather that Knoll uses on their new pieces.

The legs have been cleaned and freshly powder coated in satin black. They look amazing against the light caramel color of the leather. Black is a color that Knoll officially offers for the Womb chair's legs, so it is appropriate on this piece.

Please note that our upholsterer matched the methods that we found on this chair's original upholstery. In this case, seams under the seat were hand sewn, and the back panels were attached with ply grip. The original upholstery did not have welting around the edge of the chair, as is used in more recent production years.

We arrange shipping to destinations in the continential USA. We offer free delivery to Northeast Ohio and $99 flat rate delivery to Detroit, Pittsburgh, and the rest of Ohio. The cost of shipping to other locations in the continential USA is based on size and distance.

We use small, hand-delivery companies that are experienced with antique furniture. Depending on your location and their schedule, your piece may take several weeks to reach you. If you live in a distant corner of the country, it can take time to find a shipper that is headed your way.

Free local pick-up is also available. We are happy to work with transport services that you hire, including those that ship internationally. We work with a local crating company that can prepare your shipment for travel.

To balance costs, our workshop crew spend the most time finishing areas that are most visible and less time on less visible areas. We do not erase the entire history of a piece, but we make sure that it is fully functional, completely stable, and presents beautifully in an everyday setting.
