A Canada-based Nigerian Disc Jockey, Philip Tekeyi, aka DJ Phil Baddest, has said Nigerian DJs abroad contribute to making the nation’s music gain recognition and acceptance in the international scene.

Noting that Nigerian DJs abroad had been dominating the music scene far away from home, the multiple award-winning DJ said their contribution could be linked to the steady growth of the nation’s music industry.

DJ Phil Baddest said, “I reside in Toronto, Canada and I can testify to how we the DJs are contributing our own quota in putting Nigeria and Afro-beat on stages around cities in Canada.

“I have performed around cities in Canada like Niagara Falls, Brampton, Kitchener, London Ontario, Branford, Belleville Hamilton, Waterloo, and the acceptance to Afrobeat has been awesome.

“If you have observed the evolution of African music, you won’t deny that DJs have been a necessary link between a music track and its intended audience.”

DJ Phil, who just released a new song and visuals titled, “Wolewa”, featuring Nigerian Afro-pop singer, Opeyemi Rahim, aka Lyta, said DJs now top music charts by featuring music artistes and also making albums.

“The DJ profession is now more than just mixing and changing songs for people to dance; we are now headlining shows and concerts,” he said.

Speaking on what makes him unique as a DJ, he said he knows how to read the crowd and create a vibe people referred to as second to none.

“I make sure to create a unique and immersive experience for my audiences. With my skills in beat-matching, mixing, and manipulating tracks, I take my audiences on a musical journey, building and releasing their tension,” he said.

Notable singles under DJ Phil Baddest’s project include songs such as “Bam Bam” featuring Yungsam, and “Remind Myself” featuring Ellse from Toronto, Canada.

At the Africa Canada Investment Summit (2022) held in Toronto, Canada, DJ Phil Baddest bagged the award for the ‘Most Inspiring Personality’ in his field.
