Susanne Schindler

Susanne Schindler is an architect and writer focused on the intersection of policy and design in housing.

Schindler is co-director of the MAS program in history and theory of architecture at ETH Zürich. Previously she taught at MIT, Columbia, the New School, and RWTH Aachen. She is co-author of Growing Urban Habitats: Seeking a New Housing Development Model. At Columbia University’s Buell Center, she was a lead researcher and co-curator of House Housing: An Untimely History of Architecture and Real Estate and, with Reinhold Martin and Jacob Moore, co-editor of The Art of Inequality. A founding co-editor of the peer-reviewed journal Candide, she contributes to a range of publications, including Places, Urban Omnibus, and Platform.

Schindler holds a professional degree in architecture from Berlin University of the Arts and a PhD in architectural history from ETH Zurich. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
