Longwood Reimaged: A New Garden Experience In The Works In Chesco

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Longwood Reimagined, A New Garden Experience, a $250 million project at Longwood Gardens, is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.

The centerpiece of the project is a new West Conservancy, a 32,000-square-foot greenhouse with Mediterranian-styled gardens.

The steel structure for the new conservatory was completed and the glass is being installed, according to Jourdan Cole, Longwood Gardens spokesman.

The first horticultural milestone occurred in April with the installation of 28 yellowwood trees planted atop a new restaurant and event space in front of the existing conservatory.

Summer fountain shows

This summer features a Festival of Fountains, a spectacular celebration of music, light, water, and nature including unique garden experiences indoors and outdoors.

Fountain Performances for 2023 include Put Me In, Coach, featuring a variety of sports-related tunes; Rachmaninov: Power and Passion; Shake It Off: Taylor Swift; and Starman: David Bowie.

These events are scheduled for Friday nights during the summer:

• June 30: Festive Friday theme—"Make Some Noise”—where keyboards will be set up around the gardens for guests to play from 5 to 8 p.m.
• July 14: 5 to 7 p.m. paying homage to the City of Brotherly Love, “It’s a Philly Thing” highlights Longwood’s own collaboration with Victory Brewing Company and live music from Polkadelphia.
• Aug. 4: “To Infinity and Beyond” 6 to 8 p.m with performers from the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts at the Pumphouse Plaza.
• Sept. 15: “I’m a Believer” theme from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with family-friendly magic with The Give and Take Jugglers in the Pumphouse Plaza.
