Filippo Inzaghi has been appointed as the manager of Serie A's Salernitana, the club announced on Tuesday.

Inzaghi's predecessor Paulo Sousa was fired the same day after the club finished their eight Serie A games so far in the 2023-24 season with three draws and five losses, only better than the two draws and six losses by Cagliari Calcio. In their latest game, Salernitana lost to Monza 3-0 on October 8.

As a former ace striker of Italy, Inzaghi began his career as a manager in 2014 in AC Milan, where he retired as a player. The club finished the 2014-15 season with 13 wins, 13 draws and 12 losses, ranking in the 10th place. He was fired after that season before continuing his managing career in Venezia in 2016 in Serie C.

Venezia won 47 of their 95 games under Inzaghi in Lega Pro and in two seasons between 2016 and 2018. They were promoted to Serie B after the 2016-17 campaign and then finished in the fifth place in the second-tier league.

Inzaghi managed Bologna, Benevento, Brescia and Reggina in the following years. His biggest highlight was leading Benevento back to Serie A during the 2019-20 season. He helped Reggina secure a spot in the promotion playoffs for Serie A last season, but the club was demoted to Serie D because of financial issues. As a result, Inzaghi was released together with all players and staff.

Filippo's younger brother Simone is currently managing Inter Milan in Serie A. Inter beat Salernitana 4-0 when they met the first time this season on September 30. The two brothers will face each other at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on February 18.
