I love this classic traditional Korean spa. Located in a very bougie part of town, this gorgeous spa has everything you need for your perfectly relaxing escape. I wish we were able to wear slippers throughout the wet area but other than that it's perfect.
Definitely bring freshly washed indoor slippers for the locker room and also for the coed upstairs area. They provide two types of lockers, one for your outside shoes (this is where you can transition to your fresh indoor slippers), and a regular locker for your clothes and personal belongings.
I'm glad I brought my Stanley cup in because there were complimentary filtered water stations inside to refill so I could stay properly hydrated.
There's plenty of parking, they accept cash and credit card, they provide a true authentic Korean spa experience. There is a naked element on the women and men's side but the coed area requires clothing (which they provide- and I recommend getting a larger size, easier to move around).
Bring a book as there is a large area with heated floors and it's an absolute must to nap or read a book. There are pebbled floors at the top which I enjoyed walking on for my foot nerve health.
It wasn't crowded on a weekday, but I can only imagine how crowded it would be on a weekend. It seems like a family friendly place. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays so sadly I wasn't able to try the restaurant. Wish I lived closer, I'm sure there are a lot of locals who frequent here.Helpful 5Thanks 4Love this 5Oh no 2 - Danna D.Los Angeles, CA13452Mar 23, 2024
I only come to this spa because it is close. The quality is below average.
The girl with green and brown hair at 9:51 on Saturday, March 23rd, is absolutely stupid and should be fired right away. She blamed clients when I asked for lost and found items with some nonsense. She is very good at making people unhappy.
More and more people wear dirty shoes inside and even push their carts inside the spa? It is a lack of regulation.
There was one time the water in the hot pool was very dirty with so much dead skin floating on top.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Niki G.Brentwood, Los Angeles, CA86201103Mar 2, 2024
Love a good K spa, but not this one.
Came part of a group, had a fully body reserved and they made a mistake and gave me a scrub only. Wpoldnt accommodate the original res eventho it was their mistake.
It was overcrowded and I couldn't find parking when I arrived and I could barely get to my locker because at all times someone had their locker open next to me.
No slippers and you have to be barefoot the whole time which is so ick. They don't give slippers or robes you have to be barefoot and they give you an orange jumper. Which is fitting bc the place feels like an institution not a spa.
Won't be returning.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jonny M.North Pole, AK1223732Feb 10, 2024Updated review
My favorite spa in all of LA.
Highly recommend downstairs "wet" massages and scrubs, unfortunately I can't any longer recommend upstairs massages. Over time the quality has clearly fallen off. I have doubts they are even certified and nevertheless, they are charging premium prices for middling massages which is sad bcs that's half the special experience of going...
Still, this is a hidden gem of a Korean spa and is still my go to spot.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 11, 2023Previous reviewNot gonna lie, I keep not gonna to this spa, my favorite due to decline in quality of massages... nothing worse than fending off up sells while you're trying to relax and forget about troubles... also since they do t let you choose masseuse any more, some are hit or miss... I'm not rich enough to pay 100 for hit or miss. Hope things improve, I miss this place.
May 10, 2022Previous reviewThis is just the best spa. Normally I would t give this gem away, but due to sow business there, I'm willing to share. The crystal sauna alone is worth the price of admission....that's not even mentioning all the others such as red clay, icy cool, etc etc. The massages are always great.
Each LA Korean Spa has its great things, this is much more spacious, top of the line beautiful decor (gigantic petrified log railing, entire walls covered in giant open quartz crystals, etc etc.
Whatever. Let the whiteys I'm too, what do I care, I need my primo spa! - Jan 15, 2024
I've been coming to Riviera Health Spa for about two years now. It's a Korean run spa that is clean and friendly.
Downstairs is two separate areas for men and women. Upon arrival the staff give you an electronic key for your personal locker and an outfit for the common areas. You enter your respective areas and put your shoes / slippers into your respective foot lockers. You then go to the lockers to put your personal items.
There are about 15 stand up showers and 8 sit down showers. There is a jacuzzi, hot jacuzzi, cold jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. They provide free razors for shaving and toothbrushes / toothpaste.
Some general rules while in the spa area:
* no clothes allowed
* no footwear allowed
* keep conversations down (or silent)
* no phones
Upstairs is the common area. Wear your outfit (provided). There is a Salt room, Clay room, Jade room, and a Cold room. The floors are heated. There are multiple TVs (English and Korean). No outside food is allowed.
There is a restaurant in the common areas. The food is okay, but a bit overpriced. I've tried almost everything on the menu and typically don't eat here anymore because there are better choices to eat in the neighborhood.
Riviera Spa is peaceful and relaxing. It is clean and well maintained. The spa staff are friendly.Helpful 7Thanks 5Love this 9Oh no 2 - Jan 19, 2024
In Korea, I learned that the spa doesn't have to be a fancy occasion planned weeks before. It can be a fun impromptu day, like going to an amusement park, without the screaming.
The jimjilbang experience lives on in LA, and Riviera Spa is one of the better managed ones. It's $28/person for access to all areas, a bit less than others in the area.
For jimjilbang 1st timers:
1. You're given a wristband/key with a locker number. Head to the section of your assigned sex. Put shoes in small locker. Other belongings in big locker.
2. Hot/cold pools are adjacent to the lockers. Shower 1st, then soak (naked).
3. Change into the outfit they provided and head to the co-ed common area on the 2nd floor for saunas, snacks, and serenity.
3. Food & drinks are charged to your wristband. You'll pay at the front desk before leaving.
4. Go back to the showers to freshen up before checking out.
This jimjilbang is well-managed. Pools and saunas aren't sizeable, but they're clean. Floors are immaculate, notable since you'll be barefoot.
The only inconvenience is waiting for the elevator to go up/down just one floor. The men have both stairs & elevator. Maybe they figured women are more patient? Common misconception.
If your day feels aimless, why not float around at Riviera Spa? It's a fun way to laze away the time, whether solo, as a couple, or in a group. No reservations needed.Helpful 10Thanks 5Love this 8Oh no 1 - 97226Mar 25, 2024
I have went twice in 2023, and I'm very satisfied with the facility, cleanliness and the service. I like that the men and women are separated, unless you want to use the second floor. I have had the full service of facial, massage and scrub. I can't recall which package I had, but I did it twice.
I will probably go again.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenny L.Los Angeles, CA222655Jan 15, 2024
My first Korean spa experience and I will surely be back. I called a couple days ahead to make reservations for a scrub for me and massage for my partner, quick and easy. Plus when you get a service, the entrance fee is waived (or included, thus not needing to pay -- however you want to think about it). We got there and I let the front desk person know it was our first time, he gave a short description of what to expect and that's where my partner and I separated.
I got confused and tried to stuff all my things into the tiny shoe compartment. Don't be like me, the small locker is for shoes and you walk deeper in to put all your clothes and belonging into a locker. From there I went to the shower area (thank goodness for hand held shower heads and stools) and took a shower before leading into the pools for a soak. It's recommended that you come 25-30 mins before your service to loosen your skin cells for an easier exfoliation! After some time, Angie (the person who performed my exfoliation) called my number from the bracelet.
I made the mistake of wrapping my hair in the big towel and it got soaked during the exfoliation. But it's ok, after she gave me another big one! The scrub itself was a once in a lifetime feeling. The best way I can describe it is the borderline of hurting, but not. I looked around and saw so much dead skin, she was thorough. The scrub service finished off with her washing my face and giving me a quick massage. It was a life changing experience that left me feeling like a newborn. You'll be in an are with other women who are also naked, it was not a private room. I didn't mind, since everyone is staring at the ceiling anyways as we're all on a table top/ bed situation. Make sure to bring cash, she gives you an envelope after to provide tip (recommendation was 20%).
After that, I still had so much of the spa to explore. I went between the steam room, dry room, and cold pool. I did some research prior and read people do this to improve blood circulation. After about 3 rounds, I was getting hungry and went upstairs to get food with my partner. (*Note, they do not allow cellphones on the first floor for obvious reasons, so pre plan if you're going with someone of the opposite sex when you'll be meeting in the communal area) One thing to keep in mind is the cafeteria staff take a break from 2:30-4:30pm, so food is not served during those hours. The food was nothing mind blowing, but hit the spot after an hour or so of sweating. I changed into the clothes they gave us and went upstairs, BAREFOOT. Don't be that person who wears shoes upstairs for whatever reason and ruins the clean floors for the rest of us.
Then we finished our time at the spa going between the different coed rooms on the second floor and laying on the heated floors in the open after. If you're going to come here, be prepared to post up for a couple of hours! Make every penny worth it and maximize your relaxation. I ended up taking a nap, but I brought a book and my iPad incase I wanted to read or watch shows.
I knocked off one star because the communal area was suppose to be quiet, but someone was BLASTING her show. There was no enforcement of this rule, so what was a relaxing space quickly became annoying because of this one person. I can't imagine coming here on a busy day, I would not be relaxed at all. I came here on a Thursday afternoon and it was not too busy. I was so nervous coming, but that all came to ahead within the first 5 minutes of being nude. My experience was 10/10!Helpful 6Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 2 - 27613045134May 29, 2023
Been here about 3 times over the course of a decade and have had a fairly positive experience during all those visits. My last visit was about a month ago when I had a random Friday off and decided to treat myself to a self-care day. It wasn't super busy which I appreciated and it took me a while to figure things out since it's been a long while since my last visit. Or any Korean spa for that matter. If you don't know what's up, it's easy to accidentally piss someone off. For example, the staff (and sometimes other patrons) might approach you with abrasiveness when it comes to the rules. But once I learned that shoes are not allowed in the locker room and mats are not allowed in the saunas, I was good to go.
My favorite rooms were the salt room and the jade room, simply for the aesthetics. The upstairs co-ed area was somewhat quiet on a Friday late morning / early afternoon. The cafe had an underwhelming Veggie Bowl which contained shredded carrots, edamame, and avocado on top of salad greens drizzled with a sweet soy sauce.
The downstairs wet area is separated by gender. This is where you'll find the pool, hot tub, and cold pool. There's also a steam room, a dry sauna, and showers. Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
The one thing that confused me is that I wasn't sure where I could get extra dry towels. They provided one upon entry, and there was a stack of small dry towels in the locker room. Near the massage area, they have a stack of large towels with a sign that says not to take those towels. So I had to get creative with my one large towel and several small towels.
Overall, a good experience for what it was. I know I mentioned a few minor negatives but they were all outweighed by the positives. I still felt very calm and relaxed after a day at the spa.Helpful 13Thanks 5Love this 5Oh no 3 - 289204136Dec 6, 2023
It's nice to have a Korean spa in the South Bay area! I've always had to drive out to LA, so it's really convenient having one 20 minutes away from me. Upon entering, you go to the desk, and you let them know what services you want. They'll give you clothes, towels, and a key for your locker.
When you enter, on the right side, there are lockers for your shoes. Walk down, and the main lockers are to the right. You need to go fully nude with the exception of a towel! Be sure to shower before going into the pools!
The top coed floor has all the dry rooms. There's also a restaurant on the second floor. The food is a little pricey but it's nice to have it when you're there for several hours.
Be sure to get a full body scrub and a massage! My skin felt amazing and so clean!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
