A Letter from the Head of School Dear Seniors,

Every year 1 write a letter to the seniors in which I attempt to characterize their class and their year, and to give a few words about my hopes for them. So here we are; it is the end of January, 2002 as I write. To some extent the tone of the year was set on September 11, but let's leave that in the background as I reflect on the character of the class of 2002. How do I perceive this group? First, you are a class that is greatly loved. As a group you have a great deal of personal charm going for you; you have the respect of the faculty. School, and sometimes life, has not been easy, but you have never lost your desire to succeed nor have you engaged in any ridiculous actions that might cost the faith others have in you. Second, you are supportive of each other, of the school and of the underclassmen. You rallied the students with a timely and appropriate vigil to help us deal with the biggest national tragedy of your lives. You raised money for the victims. You make it a pleasure to come to work each day. We can count on you. While I have known some of you for four years, there are six seniors who joined us this year, only five months ago. The ease with which those six were assimilated is a tribute to them and to the rest of the class who made it possible. Corny as it sounds, this is absolutely the "nicest" group of seniors 1 have known.

You leave Marvelwood carrying not only your own aspirations, but those of the faculty for you. Our expectations are that you will live in such a way that you will continue to be loved and respected and that you will always be supportive of those around you. In that way you will be exercising those strengths which will make you happy and successful. My very best to all of you. As always, you take a piece of us with you. Sincerely,

There are so many precious people in my life, it is so hard to collect my tiioughts and find a place to begin. First and foremost I have to thank God for the immeasurable gifts of my life. Dad- You were taken from my life as easily as you placed in it, yet the mark you have made on me and my life is the most sacred thing 1 have. 1'11 never forget our last moments together doing my math homework on the couch. I will always cherish that memory and 1 keep it ir my heart with all the others. I think of you each and every day of my life, and 1 am glad that you have been a part of it. I miss you Dad and I am always going to love you. Mom- These past four years, being apart from each other has taught me to treasure our time together. You are a great mom, and I cant thank you enough for being you. No matter how old I get, I am always going to be your "baby girl". I'm glad that these four years are over, and we can finally begin to pick up where we left off. I love you Mom. Ahren- Who is the worlds best little sister?0 I don't know, maybe ME. Ruth- You came like an angel out of time and rescued me. Throughout some of the hardest times, you came to help me put the pieces back together in my life, and you have \ stayed with me ever since. I admire you for the woman you are and the woman you are teaching me to become. Your direction has led me to a new place i I life, a confident one. You have shown me how to reach in and believe. "Once I was a prisoner lost inside myself, with the world surrounding me wandering through my misery. You gave me a breath of life, unclouded my eyes with sweet serenity, lighting a ray of hope for meÖ. And now I am free". Without you in my life, I would be lost. Ed- Thanks for all the advice and devotion you have shown for me and my education. You have told me some of the best words of wisdom. Thank you for everything. Ms. Doss- You have been my guiding light leading me towards the end of every tunnel. You are one of the most incredible women that 1 have met. From the first day of school four years ago I knew that we were going to share something special. I have never met someone like you before; you are truly one in a million. We have been through everything together, and you have always been there for me. Kamy- When we were roommates, we had this sort of telepathic thing with each other, you always knew when something was wrong, and you were always there if something was. I used to think that we were too different to be friends, but now I realize that 1 was just being stupid. You have become a good friend of mine, and I am always going to remember you. Molly-1 hope you are having fun in college, I miss you. Shana, Michele, & Natalia-1 haven't forgotten about all the fun times we had, I wish you were still here.
