Downtown Development The long-awaited Swing Line Grill has finally opened! I am so thankful to Tom Powers and his entire team for sticking with it and watching his vision come to life despite multiple setbacks, including a global pandemic just weeks before breaking ground as well as countless construction issues and supply chain delays. There was so much excitement around Swing Line’s opening, and we’re looking forward to enjoying this wonderful addition to downtown Madeira for years to come! Redden Fine Meats & Seafood continues to thrive and adapt to the needs of the community as a destination for delicious, fresh cuts perfect for the summer grilling season and beyond. Plus, with Redden’s recent liquor permit, Madeira is well on the road to creating its first DORA program. City leaders have remained committed to bring a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) to Madeira and our downtown businesses have responded. Enjoying more of downtown will be even easier in the near future, with plans to redesign Miami Avenue underway including improvements to walkability and the streetscape. New Places With New Faces If you haven’t explored Madeira in a while, you may be surprised at all the other new developments around town. We recently welcomed Evolo Design to their beautiful new space on Miami with Daley Design Build renovating its new home next to Madeira Dentistry. Both companies are excited to be a part of the home buying, building and remodeling market that has remained strong in Madeira and surrounding communities for over a decade now. Madeira Optical heads towards its 70th year in business at its new location on Miami, across from Madeira Middle School. The expanded space is a sign of their commitment to providing exceptional service to our community. The corner of Miami and Railroad is also full of new faces! The Co-Op moved their Camargo Road shop downtown last year while long-time Madeira attorney, Steve Shaw, relocated his practice to the second story. Camargo Animal Hospital enters its second decade in business at is newly renovated Camargo Road space, while Westy’s has transformed to Ali’s Bar & Grill just down the road. And don’t forget about one of our hidden gems, Piazza Discepoli! New owners, Jennifer and Spencer, have been a wonderful addition to our business community. Piazza has become so much more than just another wine shop, with gourmet cheese and charcuterie platters available for entertaining - for either yourself or a group of friends! Celebrating Established Businesses With the excitement around all the wonderful new things going on in Madeira, it’s easy to overlook the amazing history of those that have helped build the strong business community we have. Spirits of Madeira celebrates its 30th year in business this year, a long standing tradition of beer, wine, spirits and, of course, the occasional long line for bourbon! The McCabe Do It Center joins the 10-year club this year, with its huge selection of Weber grills, power tools and more, it’s a great to have a convenient location for all your DIY projects. Drawing visitors from around the world, the Historical Society takes you right into Madeira’s past. The society is located inside a Sears catalog home, with tours of the early 20th-century house being the main attraction. Inside, you’ll find everything from a 1950s television set to an oldfashioned sewing machine, and everything in between. here’s always something new to explore in Madeira, and this year brings a number of new and reinvented small businesses, including the much anticipated Swing Line Grill, from the group behind Paxton’s and Ramsey’s Trailside in Loveland. Located on Railroad Avenue, at the completely transformed site of the former B&B Mower Service, Swing Line is the newest restaurant taking shape in Madeira. Plans call for the restaurant to have a wide range of dining options, and that diverse menu and its central location should make the spot a hit with Madeira residents. Redden Fine Meats and Seafood, which opened in June 2021, is one of the city’s newest retail businesses. The family-owned deli and butcher shop is located inside the historic train depot and gives off a classic, old-school deli vibe. Redden’s specializes in prime cuts of locally sourced beef, fresh seafood, and specialty olive oils, perfect for putting
together a meal for the whole family. Madeira City Council has also agreed to lease the Muchmore House to The Co-Op, which means the local favorite for women’s clothing and accessories has a new, more spacious place to call home. New businesses and new locations aren’t the only reinventions around town. Piazza Discepoli, long a Madeira favorite known for its selection of fine wine and specialty foods, is under new ownership. —CIERRA BRITTEN

This 10-acre park features a variety of facilities, from tennis courts and soccer fields to a picnic shelter and concession stand, perfect for getting active or spending a the day relaxing. There’s plenty of space to spread out at this 17-acre park, which is the largest in the city. ince 1923, Madeira City Schools have been recognized statewide for excellence. Last fall, Madeira City Schools celebrated its 100th anniversary of providing quality education and active community support that helps every student reach their full potential, both in and out of the classroom. The district has consistently ranked among the top in the state and the nation for academic performance. At least 90 percent of the student body took at least one Advanced Placement exam in 2020 and nearly 40 students graduated with a grade point average of 4.0 or higher. As part of the District’s Permanent Improvement Plan, the high school recently completed renovations to
the Commons building. Students will also benefit from a new and improved Medert Auditorium, which provides a state-of-the-art space for both Madeira students and members of the community. The Kroger Queen City Championship t The LPGA announced its return to Cincinnati with the inaugural Kroger Queen City Championship, which will bring many of the best golfers in the world to Cincinnati for the next three years. The championship will take place September 5–11 at the Kenwood Country Club, and will feature a purse of $1.75 million. More than 12 hours of live action will air globally on the Golf Channel. The championship represents an opportunity for more than 100 local women to enhance their leadership skills, build new connections, and to learn from each other and from inspirational corporate executives. With this event, the LPGA, Kroger, and presenting sponsor P&G hope to create long-term impacts for women in the community by using their resources and connections.
