NEW YORK – The Columbia wrestling team is back home for one last dual match this season when the Lions host American for a 12 p.m. match Sunday at Levien Gym. Columbia will recognize its senior class before the match at 11:45 a.m.
LOOKING BACK
Columbia closed out Ivy League action with dominating wins over Harvard and Brown last weekend at home.
Nick Babin,
Kyle Mosher and
Vincent Mueller used pins to help the Lions pull away in the dual victory against Harvard.
Jaden Le,
Aaron Ayzerov and
Jack Wehmeyer also picked up wins against the Crimson.
The Lions continued their momentum into the match against Brown as Mosher secured his second pin of the weekend.
Lennox Wolak also won via fall in the Brown match. Babin,
Kai Owen,
Richard Fedalen, Ayzerov, Wehmeyer and Mueller all posted wins to help the Lions secure their second Ivy League win of the season.
THE MATCHUP
American sits at 8-12 overall in duals this season with an 0-3 mark in EIWA action. American has posted back-to-back dual wins over Queens and Lindenwood entering this weekend. The Eagles have two wrestlers included in the latest NCAA Coaches' Rankings – No. 28 Jack Maida (125) and No. 33 Will Jarrell (285).
Jarrell leads the team in pins this season with six. Maida is 12-1 this season in the 125 spot after moving down from 133 last season. He has earned upset wins over No. 4 Eddie Ventresca (Virginia Tech) and No. 15 Braxton Brown (Maryland).
The Columbia lineup is looking for another strong performance from the top to bottom after earning impressive wins over Harvard and Brown last weekend.
Jack Wehmeyer leads the team in overall wins this season with a 16-9 mark at 197. He is 6-4 in duals and 4-2 in EIWA Duals.
Nick Babin (125) and
Lennox Wolak (174) each own seven duals wins this season to lead the team. Babin and Wolak both went 3-2 in Ivy League duals and are currently 5-2 in EIWA contests. Babin leads the squad with six wins via fall this season.
