Google Hires Kate Lanphear for Fashion Week Search Product

by Sydney Sadick

Maxim‘s former editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear is going tech, thanks to a new gig with Google to help build out its new search product for Fashion Week. Lanphear was let go by Maxim last year after just one year at the helm, and before that held roles at T Magazine and Elle. Earlier this month, she was named a contributing editor at The Editorialist, which was founded by former Elle colleagues Kate Davidson Hudson and Stefania Allen, where she’s working on both the print and digital editions.

The special Google fashion week content will be accessible via Google Search by typing in “Fashion Week” or “design + Fashion Week,” giving users the ability to search pics of fashion week highlights including runway looks, backstage moments, the front-row roster, after-party mages, and street style photos, by partners like BFA. Another cool feature: Users can search trends and buy directly from the runways from select designers, who will also share their design inspirations, including Burberry and Tom Ford, and can shop the current collections of Prada, Christopher Kane, and others. Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs are also on board and have plans to post text, images, and videos to approved users in their networks.

The initiative will extend through the European collections.
