Rachel Weisz is a certified favourite here at DIVA HQ. Through her incredible acting and dedication to stories centred on women she has garnered a lot of devoted fans. Rachel has also played queer characters in Disobedience, Dead Ringers and The Favourite (to name a few). She’s undeniably a queer icon.

Whether you consider yourself a Rachel Weisz superfan or you’re eager to learn more about the star, we’ve got some interesting facts about the icon’s life coming up…

She loves telling stories centred on women

Alongside portraying epic female characters onscreen, she started the production company LC6 to tell stories centred around women. LC6’s first feature release was Disobedience where she starred alongside Rachel McAdams.

And speaking of Disobedience…

The film contains one of the most memorable lesbian sex scenes in screen queerstory. I am of course talking about when Rachel spits into her co-star’s mouth. Fun fact: This was actually lychee-flavoured lube.

Her career started as a model

She began her modelling career at the age of 14. She told Vogue that she lied about her height and said she was 5”7 rather than 5”5.

Rachel considered changing her name

When starting out her acting career her agent suggested to change her last name as people had a hard time pronouncing it. It is pronounced as “Vice” but many mispronunciations have been said such as “Weiss”, “Wooz” and “Wise”. She considered changing her name to Kenya Campbell – in homage to English actor Ken Campbell – but her agent said it seemed like “an adult star name”. Rachel stated she thought she would’ve had a “much better career” had she changed it.

She is married to fellow queer icon Daniel Craig

Rachel and the Bond star began their romance when they starred as a couple in the film Dream House. But the couple go way back – they first met in their early 20s.

She’s a big heavy metal fan

The actor considers it among her favourite genres and considers herself an old rocker.
