Meet Queue: ‘True Detective’s’ Kelly Reilly Is Not Your Average Femme Fatale

True Detective season two brought out the big guns for its cast. Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch are all household names and familiar faces. But who’s the sultry redhead on Vince Vaughn’s arm? That would be British actress Kelly Reilly. If she looks familiar, it’s probably because she’s been bouncing around Hollywood in small turns in big films — she wed Jude Law’s Dr. Watson in the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes flicks — and bubbling up in tons of indie and international gems. She also has a vibrant stage career in the UK; she was Desdemona in Kenneth Branaugh’s now-legendary production of Othello that co-starred Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ewan McGregor, Tom Hiddleston, and Game of Thrones’ Michelle Fairley.

If you’re itching for more Kelly Reilly, then we’ve compiled five titles on streaming just for you. It’s kind of like a “meet cute” in a romantic comedy, but because it’s all streaming, we’re calling it your “meet queue.”

L’auberge Espangnole (2002)

One of Reilly’s first film roles was a supporting part in the French coming-of-age dramedy, L’auberge Espangnole. The film is about a young French scholar, Xavier (Romain Duris) who goes to Spain to study abroad and winds up getting embroiled in drama with his internationally diverse housemates. Even though Audrey Tautou was supposed to be the film’s big draw — this was right after Amelie came out, after all — Reilly stole the show. Her character, Wendy, wasn’t set up as Xavier’s love interest, but she was so funny and so lovely that she became rewritten as one of the great loves of his life in the film’s two sequels, Russian Dolls and Chinese Puzzle. Pride and Prejudice (2005)

As we mentioned, Kelly Reilly has popped up in supporting roles in a number of big films. That said, we’re particular fans of the stunning British actress’s take on Caroline Bingley in the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. Reilly stalks through the Austen story with the regality of a queen and the disdain of a royal bitch. She’s lean, mean, and she’ll ruin your favorite sister’s dreams. Eden Lake (2008)

Okay, so we were tempted to choose Citizen Gangster as our next pick — as it’s available to stream here on Netflix — but it came to our attention that Reilly’s first leading role was opposite Michael Fassbender in the horror film Eden Lake. The thriller is about a couple that travels to the British countryside and falls prey to the creepiest teenaged hooligans imaginable. Sounds fun, right?  [Watch Eden Lake]

Calvary (2014)

Reilly got to stretch her acting muscles last year when she co-starred in the searing Irish drama, Calvary. The film is about a good priest who gets caught up in a sexual abuse victim’s quest for revenge. Reilly plays the priest’s troubled daughter who’s come home after breaking down and attempting suicide. So, you know, it’s a really fun and light film. (Actually, it’s darkly comic in that bleak Irish way.) [Where to Stream Calvary]

True Detective (2015)

Here’s what we know about Reilly’s character on True Detective: her name is Jordan Semyon, she’s married to Vince Vaughn’s character, they’re trying to pull off an epic real estate deal that will get them all the cash money, and they’re struggling to conceive. Oh, and she’s gorgeous. It’s too soon to say where the season will take the character, but with her vampy style and fierce stare, we have to believe that she’s going to wind up being a modern riff on the classic film noir femme fatale.
