This is one of many sculptures by Australia born Ron Mueck. Mueck is know as a ''hyper realist' due to the fact his sculptures are fantastically life like. Not only do his sculptures look so realistic, he some how manages to capture so much emotion in his work. This sculpture titled 'Wild Man' is 9ft tall, towering over the average man, but some how doesn't lose any of its realism due to this. Mueck has used mixed media to create this sculpture, I believe this included resin, fibreglass and silicone. I wonder if the artist uses human hair in his sculptures or if he uses a substitute, again the sculpture being so realistic I wouldn't be surprised if he did. The artist tries to capture an emotion in his sculptures and i think he does this really effectively. This sculpture makes me feel really anxious due to the facial expression of the sculpture and the way he is holding onto his stool, also his feet are pressed into the ground like he is uncomfortable. I'd be interested in going to visit Mueck's sculptures in the 'flesh' as I think they'd have a really eerie feel that doesn't necessarily communicate through a photograph.
