ABOVE: Ficus caulocarpa at Prince Philip Park, Tanjung Aru beach, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. There are several fine  examples of this fig growing in the beach forest at Tg Aru.

Note the short stumpy stipule (terminal bud)  which is typical of figs in Section Urostigma. Note also the long reddish brown petioles (leaf stalks) which are distinctive of Ficus caulocarpa.

A view towards the South China Sea from the hill behind Kota Kinabalu airport runway. The big white block in the centre is the Waikiki apartments. Left and right of the apartments  is the casuarina  beach forest at the 3 km long Tanjung Aru beach a public park at Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.
