Face Time | Isabelle Fuhrman

Tina Turnbow

I met up with the beautiful young actress Isabelle Fuhrman during her recent trip to New York. Fuhrman, who is in “The Hunger Games” (opening March 23), was with her lovely mother, Elina, so we got to have some real girls time — it was fun! Isabelle’s energy, honesty and curiosity were refreshing. So was her interest in her latest discovery, makeup. I would recommend seeing “The Hunger Games.” I have a feeling she will rock it as well as she does a red lip!

Q.

I see you that your makeup bag is full of goodies. What’s in there?

A.

These are my travel-makeup must-haves. Let’s see … YSL mascara, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Stains, Josie Maran’s Beautiful Eyes palette, Urban Decay’s Naked Palette. Oh, and I love their 24/7 eyeliner pencils! My favorite concealer by Hourglass — so good. These fat pencils are all-natural lip colors I like by Zula. And I always carry this Sephora lash curler. My sister had it engraved for me. It says, “Best lashes! Happy 14th.”

What else. … I see Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Wipes. Do you use these daily?

Yes, and nightly, too. They make cleaning my face so easy. I just wipe my face clean! At night I use the Neutrogena Night Calming Wipes. They are so great. They are soothing and they have moisturizer built right in. Sometimes, when I can take the time, and my skin needs a little extra attention, I use Tammy Fender’s Purifying Cleansing Gel — it works wonders!

Are there any products you use if you get an occasional breakout?

I really like Arbonne’s Oil Absorbing Moisturizer and Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions. They fix my face quickly, which is important when you’re in front of the camera. I also love Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Stick. It helps heal zits fast and it’s all natural.

Is there a fragrance you are into these days?

I’ve been testing out various ones, trying to find the one I’d really like to make my own. I think it’s a good idea to take samples and live with them a little. So far I’m liking Creed’s Spring Flower. I think I’m going to make it my regular scent.

Your hair is so shiny and in great condition. Do you have some hair secrets to share?

I use shampoo and conditioner from Pureology — they work well. I like PhytoVolume Actif Volumizing Spray. Also, I go to this awesome salon in L.A.. They practice elements of feng shui hair care. It’s called Yamaguchi Salon and I see Billy there. That’s what makes all the difference!

What fashion designers do you like?

Well, I’m still experimenting, trying to figure out my style. I’m trying lots of things from many designers including Christian Siriano. I really like Calvin Klein for his classic simplicity. I also think Prabal Gurung designs some great pieces that work well for me. My mom has such great style; she’s my biggest influence.

Where do you go when you want to shop?

Oh, for sure Top Shop! And I love All Saints! H & M is great for trendy, reasonably priced items.

Your eyebrows are so striking; they’re beautiful, just like your mom’s. Are you careful not to overpluck?

I never let anyone pluck, including myself, unless my mom approves. She guards my eyebrows. She’s like the eyebrow police!

Your freckles are also lovely. Do you embrace them?

Well, there was a time when I didn’t like them. But now, I really do! In fact there was some skin-care product I tried and it was fading a few of them. I stopped using that right away.

Do you have a favorite lip balm?

There was one I really got into on the set of “The Orphan,” when I was 10. I still love it. It’s by Dr. Kiss and it has a vanilla mint flavor. I love vanilla mint!

Are there any actors or directors you’d really like to work with?

I’d like to act with Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep. For directors it would be so great to work with Jason Reitman, Cameron Crow and for sure, Woody Allen!

Do you have any beauty icons?

I’m kind of obsessed with Marilyn Monroe right now. I just saw the movie with Michelle Williams; she was incredible in it! Now I am so curious about Marilyn and her life. I want to check out all of her movies. She was sexy but still had a sort of innocence about her. Audrey Hepburn and Natalie Wood were also beautiful, classy and confident.

What music are you listening to the most these days?

Well my top picks would be Ed Sheran, Jason Maraz, Boyce Avenue, LMFAO, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding and, of course, Adele!

Is there any type of exercise you like to do?

I love running.

What is your favorite treat?

Ice cream!

What about your job makes you happy?

I actually really love working. Being on a movie set feels like home to me. I learn so much. Every day is like a new and exciting adventure.

What advice would you give friends or fans who struggle with confidence and the other challenges of growing up?

Well, that would be pretty much summed up in my favorite quote, which I live by. I’d like to share it, if I may. “Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forget the ones who don’t. And believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy. They just promised it would be worth it.”
